I'm in Louisville for the weekend and missed the game. I must say Boyle looks to be the real deal this year. Definitely looking forward to the rest of the games this year.

Like it or not, Boyle County has been running up the score on teams for years now, dating back to Chuck Smith's era. Throwing with a huge lead late in games, kicking on-side kicks, etc.

 

Bottom line is if you don't like it, do something about it. Like stop them from doing it (or at least try). Most can't stop them, that's why the score gets out of hand. From what I saw it wouldn't matter where the two teams played.

If the coach doesn't want to play again thats his business. I thought both teams were very physical, played very hard and were clean for the most part. JC's offense is the type that the QB maybe more than anyone else needs lots of snaps to really master it. JC will be a better team mid season than they were last night. Boyle county's defense really played well and just goes to show that you don't have to be the biggest team to win. Congrats to the REBELS and good luck on your season Johnson Central. By the way 42 for JC is a beast.

Per advocate messenger, Boyle will probably not travel to JC for the other half of "home and home". JC's coach was upset about Boyle throwing late with big lead and will seek to buy out contract

Someone should call Highland's, I think Dale is always looking for quality opponents. It would be great to get Boyle back on the schedule.

It's unfortunate if Johnson Central buys out of the contract. I mentioned that to my friend that they may get mad because our kicker kicked what may or may not have been onside kicks after our last 2 tds. Maybe things might have been a little different if not for the 2 late hits JC put on Tritapoe and I think Chris Cook early in the 3rd quarter. Both of which went unseen by the refs, but Coach Hester saw the one on Tritapoe and had to be verbally restrained by Coach French from going onto the field to have a conversation with the referee.:taz::madman::taz:

 

I know people think the right thing to do when you are whipping up on a team like we were whipping up on JC yesterday is to run it 3 times and get off of the field, but when it's 3rd and 8 and the JV is in the game, what is so wrong with passing for a 1st down? It's not like we were lining up and going deep on 1st and 10. We were trying to complete 3rd and long, and we did it with success. We may have thrown a screen pass in the flat on 1st down, but again, we weren't going vertical. I get so tired of the whole sportsmanship, run it 3 times and go back on defense. Sportsmanship is shaking hands after the game, not giving the ball back to the opponent because you are whipping him so bad. So on defense, when you get an interception should you have dropped it on purpose instead? Should you not go after fumbles? The whole thing makes no sense to me. As long as the clock still has time running on it, then there is a game to be played, so play it. If JC doesn't want to play us next year, so be it. Maybe we can find one of the other top notch 5A schools to play. I'd love to see us play Highlands again, I'd also love to see us play Bowling Green again also. Maybe we can go back to the Rafferty's Bowl or something.

The funny thing is, some of the most respected coaches at one time or another are accused of "running up the score."

 

ex. I saw Alvis Johnson leave his first string defense in vs. Boyle once in a game that was to finish 60-0.

 

ex. I saw Garnis Martin throw the ball and keep many starters in at the end of a game that ended 50-0.

 

Did Ed Rall immediately cancel contracts at Boyle? No. His team went out the next year and beat Harrodsburg 17-0 and the following season after the 50-0 loss to Bardstown defeated them 17-0.

 

If you want revenge, go out and earn it.

Im a JC fan that wasnt at the game so Ill have to talk in general instead of this game. Since when is 49-7 running up the score in high school football? I have no problem with the occassional pass with your JV when its 30 or 40 points. If it were 89-7 then ok maybe not. Onside kicks are another thing, that would kinda be uncalled for late with a big lead.

I really don't know if the kicks were onside kicks or just bad squib kicks by our kicker. They were kicked pretty hard for onside kicks, IMO, but a lineman on the front line caught both of them. I don't see how he caught them, but he did.

 

As far as the paper, I haven't read the story yet, but the Advocate Messenger doesn't normally speculate things like that. I'd be surprised if this wasn't spoken by the coach to the Advocate Messenger. Like you said, I hope it is just early talk, I'd like to play JC at JC next year, but again, if they don't want to play, then so be it, life goes on, we'll find someone else.
