If I'm not mistaking Johnson Central runs not only the Belly Option, but also the Dive and Mid-line option as well. This is why their running game is so productive. They will attack your second level at many different points. The formations remain the same but the blocking assignments and double teams change depending on which option they are attacking you with.

Yes, this will be an interesting game indeed. This definitley sounds like this running attack will be the best we may have ever seen at Boyle County.

 

What is the best way to stop their rushing attack? Has anyone been successful at stopping their rushing attack? How well did they run against Highlands last year? I thought I saw where someone said they ran for 400 yards against them last year.

^ The vear offense is VERY hard to stop when it is ran to perfection a la Belfy under Haywood, and every team that Jim Matney has coached. With the offensive line, and athletes Jim has year in and year out...you simply aren't going to stop it. You have to force them into second and longs, and third and longs, and hope that they beat themselves.

Errr, which one? Boyle is a County School and despite some people's thoughts is probably still more agriculture land than city.

 

I know Johnson Central is not a metropolis either.

To stop the bell or any options you must play assingment football which. Which means d line must squezze to keep o linemen from ripping getting to your linebackers. By doing this you free up your linebackers to make plays. You usually assign linebackers to different guys in the option. Lets say your running the tripple your playside d tackle is usually left unblock as a read key. This means he takes the full back on the dive. Which then means you take your sam and let him take pitch and this leaves your d-end taking quarterback. In the belly you would probably do the same with having your d tackle take first guy through. Then letting a linebacker taking second guy through. Which leaves the quarterback if he decides to keep it. Which would probably leave your d end or will scrapping across to take the qb if he decides to keep. If you don't play assingment football against an option team it's going to be a long night and they will stay on the field as long as they want too.

Boyle might be more athletic than Johnson Central, but this one could be a close one!

Is this a home and home series with Johnson Central? I've herd they have a top notch field and would very much like to view it in person next year.

This is true however with that being said. When I played ball at Johnson Central we switched the way that we blocked in each of the options that we ran. In the belly it was blocked just as you stated. However, when running the Dive and Mid-line we were taught to block by gap. Usually the back side chopped, the tight end attacked the safety, then play side was over loaded giving us 1 extra blocker leaving the defense -1 in numbers. I didn't play for Mat. so I don't exactly know how he does his blocking schemes but I doubt it would be the same for all three. He is to good of a coach to make it that simple for opposing teams.
