Worst as a Player: Leaving the team my Senior year due to ignorance.

 

Best as a Spectator: Watching Couch & Leslie Co. Beat Highlands @ Tates Creek.

Worst as a Spectator: 3 Way Tie-Watching Somerset beat Harlan twice in 06, Watching Bell loose to Highlands in 04, Watching Cumberland loose to Pikeville Massey & Tinsley's senior year

 

Best as a Parent: Seeing my son's name on CJ All-State Team

Worst as a Parent: Watching a devastating knee injury against Cumberland (my old team)

Was it really necessary to bold that? I got so sick at the end that I puked for the first time ever in a game. It wasn't from being tired, it was from realizing that it was all over.

 

Sorry no hard feelings mexitucky. Just stating it was one of the biggest wins Raceland has ever had. New Cath. dominates the series with Raceland and is one of the best programs in the state:thumb:. I know I lost to New Cath. twice in my four year career:madman:. Including ending our season my junior year when we were 11-2 on the season. I too puked so I feel your pain. :puke:

I was at this game. That was my cousins senior year. The game was on of the nastiest weather games I've ever seen. Truly one of the greatest if not the greatest game Raceland has ever won! I shouldve put this one down as one of my greatest spectator moments. I was only in the 6th grade.

I should have mentioned that one as well RF. That win was huge one for Raceland's program.

Mexitucky, you guys in NKY play a very good brand of football and have sent Raceland home with our tails tucked far more than not.

I think I can speak for most if not all Raceland fans in saying that we really respect and admire New Cath's program as well as Beechwood and others in the area. I will also say that we have always been treated with respect by your fans, players and coaches when we played there as well, your people are class acts :thumb:.

 

Beechwood along with yourselves could have been much more repsectful by losing to us more, that was very rude!:irked:..............:thumb:

Worst as a spectator...I always hated when we played teams with no support. Several stick out, but I don't want to single any team in particular out.

 

Best as a parent: Watching my son make his first high school touchdown reception in the endzone his freshman year.

Worst as a parent: Watching my son as a sophomore catch a reception for a first down, then not get up.

I was just kidding. They were able to throw all over us even in those conditions. That killed us.

Worst memory- Has got to be the infamous 2004 Highlands-Bell County game. With Bell leading 13-8 through most of the 4th and the way that the defense had been playing it seemed almost a sure thing that the state championship game was a lock. Mike Mitchell broke a big run in the 4th, ending up making the score 15-13, and highlands finishing the game off. Very cold, sad night on log mountain.

 

Best Memory- Besides the state championship, has got to be I think an '05 game vs. Rockcastle up on log mountain. Rock was going into halftime with a 3+ TD lead, and the D wasnt budging a bit to Bell. The second half rolled around, and Kyle Nelson and Stephen "Buckeye" Hunter seemed to just take over, eventually ending with a QB sneak as time expired by Nelson to give Bell the lead, and the win. That game was without a doubt one of the best high school football games I've watched.

Best memory player- Beating the Male bulldogs 49-47 in the second round of the playoffs. As a new school it was a big win. Nobody thought we could do it but we did.

 

Worst memory player- Losing to St.X by 1 point the following week in the regional championship. One little play could have changed everything...

Rule 13

As a player:

BEST My first varsity TD (at Newport Catholic 1981), beating Whitley County my senior season for our only win (1982), and after missing the first 7 games my senior year due to surgery, coming back against Madison Central and getting to drill All State RB Darwin Isbell on my first play back (1982).

WORST 1981 losing that very same game against Newport Catholic, losing 6-3 to Madison Central (1981) and not making the playoffs because of it and most of all missing the first 7 games my senior season and seeing my team go 0-7 to start the season, ... the last was the most painful because there was nothing I could do about it.

 

As a spectator/parent:

BEST 2005 North Laurel 26 Madison Central 23 (2 OT). Just the expression of pure joy on my son's face after that game was priceless

WORST The very next week, 2005 North Laurel losing to Whitley County 22-21 and missing the playoffs OR seeing 2005 North Laurel blow a 20-8 lead in the 4th quarter to lose to Mercer County in the Pioneer Bowl.

Best:

 

- 90-yard TD run against Jenkins when I had 4.5 speed and 75 less pounds

- My first ever INT against Morgan County

 

Worst:

 

- Enduring an 0-10 season as Magoffin County was just getting started with football - some of those were 75-7 and 65-0 type games

- Hitting a Sheldon Clark RB with everything I had and knocking him out of bounds; thinking I'd delivered the hit of life, I started celebrating as he was screaming in pain and agony; Then, I realized that the stake used to mark the lines for painting had went through his hand and pinned him to the grass; he lay there in pain until the ambulance came on the field.

Best - In 2008, Ashland beat Woodford County 54 - 44 in a CRAZY game at Putnam Stadium. Ashland had been beat 48 - 13 the previous season and several key defensive plays and a great game by then freshman Sam Hunter sealed the deal for the Tomcats.

 

Worst - In 2006, when Ashland lost to Johnson Central in the second round of the playoffs. It was a devastating loss which the Tomcats could have won.

Best memories were playing in the perfect season untill meeting Mayfield at their house in the semi-state game in 89'. Where unfortunately they killed us like we were an eighth grade team.

 

Worst memory is not playing my junior year because of...well just plain stupidity, and losing my starting position that I had worked on for two years previous. But I am glad in a way because I feel that John P. the now head coach of Monroe was a better QB anyway and he took us as far as we got.

Rule 13

We had a game at Boyd County in 91. After a TD we kicked off and while the ball was in the air and I was running full speed about 10 years from an opponent the lights in the stadium went out. Pitch dark! Couldn't see my hand in front of my face dark. There were a lot cheap shots going on that game and I just tried to get to my sideline without taking a lick. That was a eerie moment I will never forget.

As a Highlands fan, I've had hundreds of great memories, so watching Kody Rosenhagen return that fumble for a touchdown against Johnson Central last season might rank as #1 just because it was the most recent. I know he wanted to run the ball as a Junior Leaguer, but was always too big, so seeing him come out of that pile with the ball and a clear field was great in a lot of ways.

 

Worst were the long walks across the field after the 1979 Belfry and 1997 CovCath games.:puke:

That was my senior year in high school....I went to that. The week before was my worst high school football memory. My senior year We (Newport) were beating Lawrence Co. 22-8 at half and ended up losing the game 27-22.

 

My best high school football memory was also my senior year when we beat New Cath for the fireman's bell for the first time in 13 Years.

 

I really do not have the best memory as a coach, I just remember the kids themselves more than I do the game because they play, not me.

 

I just enjoy watching the kids succeed at applying the things that they were taught and being successful. I care way more about kids succeeding by reaching their personal best than I do a bunch of wins. Winning is the bi-product of each individual doing the things that they were taught to the best of their ability. I always look foward to the next play because that play is the most important.
