June 24, 200917 yr Author Do you seriously think they will go into the season with 3 post players? They will add some players who are just as capable or more so than Kurt Thomas and Fabricio Oberto. Who is on the free agent market that the Spurs would be willing to get? Duncan is the only "post" player they had last year. They can find some big bodies to bang inside and give them minutes. Thomas and Oberto weren't quite all-stars after all. No, they weren't all-stars, but they were both very managable. It's not as though the Spurs are garbage, they got beat in the first round of the playoffs this season because one of their best players was out. I just don't think it was a good move.

Ginobli hasn't been healthy for the past two seasons...they can't waste Duncan's few remaining elite years and Parker's prime hoping Manu can be healthy for the playoffs. Jefferson makes them better either way because what they lost in the trade can easily be replaced through free agency. You can't just go out and get a guy like Jefferson any time you want. Oberto and Thomas? You can. Not to mention the fact that Jefferson's presence as a legit threat from the wing will allow them to manage Ginobli in the upcoming season and hopefully keep him healthy and have him ready for the playoffs. They won't "need" him as much during the season to win games with Jefferson in the lineup...thus he can rest more. Ginobli is injury prone and his career high in minutes came in the '07-08 season...that's also when he broke down and couldn't give them anything against LA in the conference finals and then followed that up with about half a season this year. They need to be able to sit him and rest him when necessary and Jefferson gives them the luxury. He missed about 10 games per year before this season.

The Spurs won four titles on playing defense and dominating in the paint, not with high scoring and flashy players that can cram. I would have liked this trade had the Spurs gotten a wing that can play defense and can score adequately, someone like Tayshaun Prince, Shane Battier or Ron Artest. Jefferson isn't the Spurs' type of player. They've been a team built on tough nosed, sound defense and they made a trade for offense, if you've won 4 titles in the past ten seasons and you have almost all of those players back, including two all-stars and top 15 players in the NBA in their primes and one of the top three power forwards of all time, why mess with it?

Because, even with a healthy TD, they weren't better than the Lakers or Nuggets (or Cavs or Magic) this year. If they want to make a title run, they needed to switch up. We'll see how it turns out- I think if the Spurs can add two serviceable big guys, it will turn out well.

So, if he retains his option with the Jazz for $12.7 million, she gets half- therefore, signing a measley $6.5 million contract would wind up netting him more money, making a potential long-term deal with the Pistons around $10 million not too unlikely. To add to the twist, apparently Boozer and his wife are reconciling and may get back together.
