June 23, 200917 yr Great move for the Spurs. Bowen provides very little at this point in his career. Spurs need to get younger period and they did that and added a good player. Oberto and Bowen are likely to be released.

June 23, 200917 yr These two teams were trying to achieve two different things with this trade...I think it works for both of them. The Spurs want to win now while Duncan is still one of the best in the league and Jefferson is a big addition. Not only does he just simply make them better...but as a wing, his presence will likely allow Pop to manage Ginobli's minutes better to keep him healthy and ready for the playoffs when it really matters. Jefferson gives them another offensive threat that they didn't have...so they can still get three scorers on the court if Ginobli isn't in the game. Big plus for SA. Additionally, Jefferson thrives in the open court in an up-tempo game...this gives the Spurs the option of running more, or even taking Duncan out and playing "small ball" at times. If everyone stays healthy and clicks together, this move puts the Spurs back in the hunt in the west.

And, he just turned 29, so he's got some good years left. Milwaukee saved some money and cleared some cap space to allow them to re-sign Charlie Villanueva and get Joe Alexander on the court. It makes sense to me. The Spurs have 3 post players now, Drew Gooden and Matt Bonner, who are both horrible and Tim Duncan, so if Duncan gets hurt you're starting Matt Bonner and Drew Gooden. They add Jefferson, but trade away their post depth in exchange. It's not a good deal if you ask me.

They add Jefferson, but trade away their post depth in exchange. It's not a good deal if you ask me. Gooden is a free agent, and he's far from horrible. He's a decent player who averages 10-12 ppg. I think if he'll re-sign relatively cheap, they should get him back. As for losing Thomas and Oberto...neither were all that great and can be replaced. Actually, Oberto has already been traded again, to Detroit. As for Thomas, I wouldn't be surprised if he and Bowen were released and re-signed by the Spurs :lol:.

Do you seriously think they will go into the season with 3 post players? They will add some players who are just as capable or more so than Kurt Thomas and Fabricio Oberto.
