Track the Reds (Week 3)

^ He is 27 and yes it is enough to get him out of the lineup. Sub .200 hitter with poor D?

27 isn't that old. By "young" I meant inexperienced.

We've got to find a bat who can play LF if we want to compete this year.

It can easily happen and be an abberation. Especially when you consider that he was playing for a non-contending team late in the year and you're only talking about 122 plate appearances. It should be red flag also that he struck out 35 times in only 102 at bats. He's much more likely to develop into Ryan Freel or Chris Stynes than an everyday Major League Starter.

:thumb: Exactly here's another great example. Sam Horn, came up in late July 1987 with the Red Sox and was going to be the next great slugger for the Sox. He hit .278 in 158 at bats with 44 hits, 14 Homeruns and 34 RBIs and quickly became a folk hero. However, the Sox were having a bad year following their World Series meltdown and he did it with relatively no pressure on him. The rest of his career? .234 in 882 at bats with 206 hits, 48 Homeruns and 145 RBIs. Dickerson and Hanigan are much more likely to be bench players than everyday players. It is very rare that a player stays in the minors as long as these two and ends up having a very long career as a starter in the majors.

Bruce, Phillips, Votto, Encarnacion, and Dickerson will be the definates coming into training camp based on performance this year. We need help at catcher and the other OF position.

Why hasn't Dickerson been included by anyone in this? I like this guy alot and I think he fills the leadoff spot problem.

You can include anyone you want. I like Dickerson as well, he's done a very nice job.

I agree that Hairston and Keppy would be two very good utility guys. I also agree that Dickerson has a good shot to play everyday. EE, Votto, and Bruce aren't going any where in my opinion. I also believe this Team may set a record for off season trades, it should be interesting.

I will be honest I have not paid any attention to the Reds for the last month and a half. However I have heard good things about how Dickerson has been playing. So with the current players this is who I would have starting next year and the order.

CF- Hairston

SS- Keppy

RF- Bruce

2nd- Phillips

1st-Votto

3rd- Encarncion

LF- Dickerson

C- I have no idea

Im sure there will be some changes in offseason and might have some different players. However I know I kind of like this bunch. They would be a scrappy bunch of players, who you know will play hard out there, and do the little things.

While I do not think that Keppinger & Dickerson are the answer, they're far from the problem.

I'd like to keep both of them on the roster, and could live with Dickerson playing every day. He's had 100+ at-bats this year in the bigs and is still over .300. He's got speed and some pop, and can play any OF position.

I'd also like to see Keppinger on the roster again next year. He's a good hitter & handler of the bat, and a pretty good fielder as well. He'll also play 1st, SS & 3rd. Him & Hairston are two utility guys that we should keep.

Freel & Gonzalez (and more importantly, their contracts) need to go...

There were a lot of you guys in love with Dickerson last year and in the off season. Me and westsider tried to tell you......

It is hard to believe that McDonald made the team and Dickerson is playing as bad as he is. We have Nix sitting on the Bench and Gomes in AAA. Could be a couple more Cory Patterson's?????

It's time to get Rosales and Gomes on the roster. Got to find some run production somewhere. Can't be any worse.

Got to. :thumb:

Bbguy after what i witnessed up close and personal today, I am inclined to agree about Dickerson. He is lost right now. As far as a 350 hitter in AA, man I don't know about that.

Might be a little reach, but he could easily be in AAA. As your well aware of I'm sure, playing in AA doesn't mean that the guys in AAA are better. They must do something though, Dickerson or McDonald don't belong.

Dickerson is painful to watch out there in LF. I almost miss Dunners glove.......:ohbrother:

You could see it in Dickersons face, he's overwhelmed. One other guy that doesn't belong is that plate ump. The inconsistency of the balls and strikes was amazing. The stike zone was like an amoeba, constantly changing, making it very tough for the batters.
