He said that the US has faults - arrogance and dismissiveness. "Bad" is too simplistic. Things aren't either bad or good...there is a whole spectrum in between. Admitting a fault doesn't equate with "bad" in a mature world.

I don't see any apology being made.

We lived in Europe for 4 yrs in Germany. I have seen the good and the bad.

That place is hard to find in a country with a group of peope looking to undermine its leader at every turn. It is much easier to slam the POTUS than it is to simply look at his words to see if there is any truth to them. If I can't do a little self reflection and admit my shortcomings TO THOSE WHO HAVE FACED THE BRUNT OF THEM then I am stuck still being an adolescent.

This country has a history of expecting other countries to use the UN to but we don't have to. It seems that this country only uses the UN when it is in its suits its own interests. The US champions human rights but it has a distant and recent history of human rights violations itself.

 

The US was against Russia invading Georgia but we had invaded Iraq on false pretenses. Other countries around the world wants something done about global warming but in this country there are some who say it is a figment of people's imagination.

The UN has been proven a corrupt organization and what does Iraq have to do with our "arrogance" toward Europe?? Check the air pollution standards in Europe.. They are a lot worse than the USA.. Why dosen't Europe carp about China's pollution which is the worlds worst?

False pretenses that Saddam admitted he set up. In his mind, he did it to scare Iran into not invading. He just never counted on someone having the "arrogance" of calling his bluff and 10-12 years of ignoring the UN guidelines for him.

It looks as if we were able to do the job in Iraq withou them. I have not confirmed it with a second source, but I read that Iraq has met 17 of the 18 benchmarks set back during Bush's adminstration. Could someone confirm if that is true or not?

What were all those UN Resolutions that Iraq was to meet? Iraq ignored them as Iraq beleived the UN would do nothing. The UN passed one last resolution for Iraq to live up to or face possible military action, they failed to live up to that resolution. Bush then sent troops in, based on a resolution passed by Congress, which most Democracts supported. The US had about 40 nations supporting us, most of which were not involved in combat, but support. Of course the French were no where to be seen or the Germans or the Russians as they did not want to ruin their business connections. Much of what they were doing was against UN sanctions.

If you want to find out what arrogant is, spend some time in Western Europe.
