Not all of us bought it. 1) Only to the extent that terrorists apparently decided to take advantage of the mayhem in Iraq. 2) No, the quote was made weeks after 9-11.

Am I "mis-remembering" former President Bush using "War on Terror" as an umbrella which included both Afghanistan and Iraq? I certainly know when the words were uttered. Their echoes, however, were much longer lasting.

I also firmly believe that the words were absolutely dead on right.
April 9, 200917 yr Because to not make a stand emboldens terrorists. To not make a stand could give them safe haven. Because at it's roots it is simply evil. In which case what good does publicly making a stand do? Killing them is a much more effective way of getting the message across. I am looking to assign good or evil intent to it, they are simply actions taken by a person or a group of people that happen to cause injury and/or fatality to civilians.

April 9, 200917 yr Is arrogance giving every country our tax dollars as a relief effort only to know that it will never be paid back in money or deeds? Is it arrogant to keep peace keepers in certain areas of the world? Is it arrogant to provide food, clothing and medicine to those around the world, that are without, yet not make the same offer to those same folks at home? Why is arrogance such a bad thing? Confidence? Why are these things bad? What if our stand was that we would ONLY take care of ourselves? No support or intervention into other countries or other cultures. Every dime raised in the US went to CITIZENS, of the US. If someone were to attack uys on our soil, we turn their country or place of origin into a Wal-Mart parking lot and go home. No sticking around, no rebuilding, no military shows of strength. Go in Flatten, leave. Bumper stickers on the planes would read,"Don't Mess with the US". If Europe wants to meet and discuss "global warming" or other issuses, Great. But anything that we choose to spend money on will be spent in the use. If you choose to enter this country as a non-citizen, you will be given 3 months to learn our language & secure employment. If not you are escorted back never to return. Is it arrogant to allow American citizens to lose everything while Illegal, non-citizens are working tax free? Is it arrogant for our schools to spend time money and talents to ensure that the kids of illegal aliens can learn and get an education at the expense of the legal parents and kids? Is it arrogant for every business and our government spend untold millions to ensure that every ATM, Menu, Road Signs, etc...., are written in every conceivable language so as not to inconvenience the illegal aliens in the United States? Throwing around arrogance is unjust in my mind. It would seem to me that in order to not be viewed as arrogant, we would have to give everything away and contradict no one. The United States....not so United anymore.

Come on, I can find you multiple sources that claim Iraq has no link to the war on terror. The point I'm making is that I have stated repeatedly that I am referring to the only time I remember Bush saying you're with us or against us. That was right after 9-11 and was referring to the war on terror at that point in time and in that context I whole heartedly agree. I am aware of others with that attitude about the Iraq war but I do not agree there.

I don't know, what good would making a stand against slavery do in the 1850"s? What good would making a stand for civil rights do in the 1950's? This is a battle for minds and the more that make a stand against terrorism the better. The fewer safe havens they have, the better. While I'm all for killing them, that often has the opposite effect of what is desired.

Then there's "For the first time in my adult lifetime, I'm really proud of my country, and not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change" from his better half. Definitely ashamed.

I am aware of others with that attitude about the Iraq war but I do not agree there. I don't know how we aren't connecting. Even President Bush said that the war in Iraq was part of the War on Terror. Each of our allies shouldn't feel pressured to fall into line behind our lead on that. So, I guess the "War on Terror" is best determined by each country.
