I remember watching the PRP-South Laurel game from about 20 rows up in the endzone where Walt Allen made that final lay up. I remember just sitting there scratching my head right after it happened trying to contemplate everything that had happened in those last few seconds. It seems that some PRP players celebrated a little too early, and that was how Allen got the lay in. I thought sure that Spillman and Jazz Neal were going to take it back to PRP that year the way they were playing...

 

Didn't Lofton play a 3 OT game on Saturday morning during the year that Warren Central won it? Seems like they played Trinity and they had 2 brothers that were really good. I'm thinking that Trinity looked to have it wrapped up a couple times and that Lofton hit 2 threes in about the last 20 seconds to send it into one of the OT's....

 

The triple OT game was in the quarters against Trinity on Friday. Everybody in Rupp knew that Lofton was going to take the last shot in regulation; as a Mason County fan I was just hoping that nobody had the good sense to foul him first. Saturday morning was a single-OT game against Scott County.

 

The brothers that were really good are the Saxton twins, currently playing for Georgetown College.

This is my 20th Sweet 16. I missed a few in high school and college, but have picked right back up where my dad started me at the age of 6. I have a ton of great memories, but its hard to top Richie Farmer vs Alan Houston. I still don't think I have ever seen two better offensive performances in the same game.

1. The talent of the 93 tournament (Epps, Elton Scott, Jason Osborne, Danyell Macklin, Darnell Burton, Cameron Mills). To this day, it was the best tourney & produced what I believe to be the best Sweet 16 team I've seen (Marion County).

 

2. Richie Farmer's 51 vs. Ballard...just incredible

4. Sitting in the stands not paying attention to the University Heights/Lexington Catholic title game in '92, because I was watching Duke/UK on a tiny TV in the stands.

I believe it was 2003 when Daviess Co. faced Hopkinsville. Daviess Co. lost on a buzzer beater that absolutely did not beat the buzzer. It was a heart-breaking loss for Daviess Co.

I have a couple memories, but my fondest has to be being a little kid and going every year with my Dad. He used to do radio for the local station and after each session, my brother and I would go out and shoot some while he and his partner wrapped things up. We thought it was the coolest thing in the world to get to shoot on Rupp's floor.

Just getting the opportunity to walk on Rupp's floor finally as a Senior, after being so close so many times. Every kids dream in KY is to just be a part of the KHSAA Sweet Sixteen, and in 1997 that dream was realized for us at Greenup County. We won our first game over Perry County Central, and fell by 3 points to Highlands in the Quarterfinals after trailing big early. Highlands went on to Finals and lost to Lou. Eastern. What hurt more than anything was we had beat pretty much the same Eastern team, the year before in an invitational tournament at Marion County and Highland's beat Paintsville, whose players we played against a great deal in the summers. When you get there sometimes you feel overwhelmed, like you don't belong, but looking back we did belong there and really were close to doing something extra special. Memories are great and something that can never be taken away from you.

I'll add this one. Watching mcdaughter getting picked out of the crowd to participate in the National Guard halftime shootout in the 2006 game between Mason County and Apollo. She can always say that she scored a few baskets in Rupp Arena.

Put on a show early in warm-ups, played well in the game, and not too often you see a McDonald's All-American playing in the Sweet 16.

 

Lexington Catholic keyed on him heavily, and he still found a way to do his thing.
