March 16, 200917 yr I believe Gillispie calls it quits and UK hires Thad Matta. I guess we'll have to wait and see... If Thad Matta gets the UK job, I will no longer cheer for the Cats. He is a joke for a coach. Thats just my opinion though.
March 17, 200917 yr The Uk Short List 1. Jaime Dixon from Pitt 2. John Calipari Memphis 3. Billy Donovan Florida 4. Travis Ford Ok. St. 5. Bobby Knight - Bring him out of retirement, Gotta admit, it would be interesting.

Interesting that your 3rd choice to replace the coach that has missed one tournament is to bring in a coach that has missed the last two tournaments.

I don't get this...? he is one of the top recruiters in the country and took a football school to a basketball title game. I would love for his 3 five star verbals and one 4 star verbal to come to UK in 2010. He is in the mix for a five star center in 2010. You wouldn't want 4 top 20 players at UK if he gets that center it would be 4. And all the people have said since Pitino left is "the players aren't as good."
March 17, 200917 yr Why would anyone coach worth his salt want to come to UK. Two years into Brooks's tenure and now two years into the Gillispie era every media clown starts trying to run them out of town. Clay, Vaught, Story all are irresponsible little wessels. That's not even mentioning all the internet experts. Who is irresponsible? Billy Clyde is not responsible enough to be the head basketball coach at the University of Kentucky. He proves that consistently time and time again beginning the first day his donkey rode into town. Those you cite as being irresponsible little weasels just have the guts to point it out to all of you who wear the thick blue Coke bottled glasses.

Like someone else stated, it makes no sense, he can't make the tournament with talent similar to UK's. Why go laterally. 4. Worse personality than BCG, has won but has only won at schools that shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as UK, he needs to be consistent at OK St. for a while, long while before a consideration. 5. Are you kidding? The man is almost 80. We want stability. Do you realize UK has only had 6 coaches in over 100 years, I'd like to keep that reputation in tact.

March 17, 200917 yr I have a friend that spent more than a decade as a Division I assistant, including several years in a BCS league. Two or three years ago, when I asked him who he would hire if he was Kentucky and Tubby Smith suddenly left, his first choice was Jamie Dixon. It was an intriguing answer, and I would say that Dixon has done nothing since then to call that pick into question.

Dixon is 160-43 in his 6 years at Pitt. I really hope your not comparing his recent success to Billy Clydes, because they are far from the same. Dixon would be a great fit at Kentucky, he can recruit, and most importantly he can flat out coach. 2. Very worthy, but not the only one. 3. Very worthy of the job. Billy D has been down for the past 2 years, but he has been in the post season for the past 11. He has had a great run at Florida, I wouldn't mind seeing him at Kentucky. He would revive that program, get fans back into it, and start winning. He is a far, far, far better coach than that one they have. 4. Ford has a far better personality than Billy G from what I have saw. Ford has had a pretty solid career, but not one that those Kentucky fans like seeing. I guess if your not a 600 game winner, put your team in the Final 4 over 5 times, and won 3 national titles, don't come to Kentucky. Ford has Kentucky roots, he wouldn't be a bad hire at all. 5. The only thing I really agree with. He is getting their in age, and that is a very impressive stat by UK. I would also wanna keep it in tact.

One would think Bob Knight to be about 80, but remember, he started at Army as the head basketball coach at age 25. Bobby Knight is only 68, but certainly not a prime candidate for the Kentucky job.

Dixon is a good idea.

It isn't all that much different, because BCG had a 65% winning percentage before UK and Dixon's is just 12% more. BCG was brought in because he was the BEST recruiter, we as UK fans can't reallt complain about our recruits to this point. No one called BCG out for his coaching ability when he came into UK, but instead they observed him under a harsher eye at UK and made their observations, I'm sure the same would be done if Dixon were UK's coach. By the way Pitt isn't all that much more coveted than Texas A&M as far as history or tradition.
