I think that was the largest crowd to have ever been at a basketball game in the Harold L. Holbrook East in the 29+ years of the gym. IMO Be interesting to know what the take was at the gate for that one.

Yes, it was packed to the rafters and folks standing everywhere. Had to be close to 2,500. I got to the game at 4:50PM (2 hrs 10 min before tip off) and there was a line with about 200 people in it. If you won't front row kinda like Midnight Madness at UK. Bring a tent and set it up by the front doors the night before. Amazing to me that Elliott is bringing this many fans from such a small county. If you did a calculation on county population to # of fans in attendance this has to be the highest % of any team in the state. By the way most of those in line were Elliott fans. If Elliott makes it back to Rupp Sandy Hook and the county will be like a ghost town.

Well, spindoc knows how gracious and generous you must be.

Great game. Best opening-round-of-the-district game I've ever attended.

Very impressed with East--particularly their bigs. Barnhill is solid--an absolute banger. #3 was also impressive. Has a good inside & outside game. #22 also hit a lot of outside shots. East, for the most part, played under control and smart. Without question, they had Elliott on the ropes tonight.

As for Elliott, the great teams find a way to win, and that's exactly what they did tonight. Glad someone gave Flannery some props on the 3 he hit. The only bench points for Elliott, it came at a critical time--tying the score at 36 (I believe). Ferg got hot at the end of the 3rd quarter and the start of the 4th, and that's really what gave Elliott a good run and some breathing room. Despite the technical, some unwise shots, and several missed free-throws, the Lions did what you're supposed to do in March: survive & advance.

About the officiating? One-third of the crew was consistently lousy. I'm told he's one of the highest-rated officials in the region, but he stunk it up last night, making terrible calls on both ends of the floor.

Great high school game, and congrats to both East & Elliott for their intensity and effort.

Every time Flannery comes in...he pops a 3 pointer as easy as he does a 25 foot side winding putt for birdie.

I think that it is fair to say that both teams played equally last night and had an equal fan support.

With that being said, the only other determinant factor was the referees. There was a stat posted earlier about the freethrow situation, which was a heavily lopsided proportion, 27-10 favoring Elliott Co. (Not to mention that 2 of the 10 for East came from an assessed technical foul). So basically you can reduce that to 27:8, which is more than 3:1.

I thought one ref was #1 rated in the region and another did a lot of college basketball games? Surely, he doesn't call those games like that...

102.9 had an entirely different perspective on the ref's than Go Radio!! Opinion's vary!!!!!!!!!! I am known to be straight up myself and tell it like it is regardless of consequences!! There was one ref who seemed to have an anger towards Elliott and made some really questionable calls....several in a row!!!! On the last two in the sequence I saw one of the other ref's look at someone in the crowd with the expression of EEK whats he doing!!! It doesn't matter really because Elliott won but the truth is the truth!! The other two were pretty consistent!! The one in discussion spent more time talkin with the East coaching staff than he did reffing!! NOW! before everyone goes nut's I am not taking nothing away from East..they played one of the best game's I ever saw them play!! East's stellar play kept them in the game!! I am just stating that I agree with several other opinion's about one official in particular being horrible.. 100%!!!!!!!!!!

I am going to go over the video to night and count the difference in penetration by Elliots guards verses East Carter and I would bet that Elliott will triple theirs!! That is the difference in foul's called!!

Would about 8-10 palm's and walks not called be considered any kind of factor?????

Yes there was a difference in the fouls and before I go on I would have been happy to see East win. But when you start taking away numbers like the two for the "T". You must also note that 8 of those 27 FT's were in the last 2min. when East was trying to foul. Also I think 3 of East 4 misses wee front ends of the bonus. So that would have made it a good bit closer. Also you must admit Elliott took the ball to the hole harder and more often than East and more of East fouls were o nthe shot as compaired to Elliott's their's was out on the floor.

While you are counting, please let us know how many times the Faulkners guided who they were guarding with their hands wherever they wanted to, also known as a handcheck.

And if you are counting number of times that Elliott penetrated to the basket and got the foul called, how about the number of times that East had the ball on the block and in the paint, and did not get a foul call.

Palms, did you watch an NBA game last night?

How about the elbow in the eye one of the Elliott boys took that didn't get called either.

Maybe he "calls it like he sees it." Sounds to me like everybody at the game last night feels the refs didn't do a good job. Calling it like we see it.

Congrats to Elliott County on the win.

How can you say the free throw count had no outcome on the game. A difference that large in FT's compared to the final margin of victory does have a bearing. What is failed to mention is East did play zone for over 3 quarters. Which makes the FT difference even that much larger a factor.

In the end, Elliott got the ball to bounce their way in key situations, which determines the winner a lot of times in tight games with evenly matched teams. East has nothing to hang their heads about. A bounce here or there and the outcome could have went the other way.

But the KEY stat to the whole game...... 27-10

I am not from Elliott County nor did I attend the game. I do know one thing though. When a team is outmatched in high school basketball they tend to be more physical to neutralize the game, and maybe try to get in the other teams head. This is a KEY stat, but just because Elliott shot more free throws does not mean that the officials were favoring them. Rarely can you blame the outcome of the game on officiating. It sounds to me like East was just more physical, and as a result, Elliott shot more free throws.
