Great game! Both teams played with heart and intensity the entire game. I attended both the regular season games, along with seeing each team play several other games this year. None of them made any comparison to last night's. (No, not even Elliott's two games with Mason and Ballard) Why? This game had it all.... a packed house(that's putting it mildly), an atomsphere that could've taken the roof off, and two teams that weren't ready end their season. This is what high school basketball is all about.

 

As for the game, East did everything they needed to do to win, and they did win this game in almost all aspects, just not the one that counted. The scoreboard. Elliott did what every good team does, they found a way to win. East was peaking at the right time, it is a shame they won't playing in Morehead.

Congratulations to Elliott County. No disrespect to anybody else intended, but I really don't see anybody else threatening the Lions the rest of the way. I think East Carter had the best chance to beat the Lions. Good luck to Elliott County the rest of the way. I certainly hope they are able to win it all. If they do win the State Championship, spindoc and myself will come to Sandy Hook and treat Dale and the boys to dinner at the Penny Mart.

Elliot beat them by 22 and 20 in their previous matchups. For whatever reason, its hard to beat a team 3 and 4 times in one season...no matter how much better you are. Breathitt County lost to Knott Central in the regional finals one season after twice beating them handily in the regular season and then beating them by about 15 points a week before in the district finals.

 

Its possibly the Lions will have to beat West Carter 4 times to advance. They should win, but its never easy to beat the same team over and over.

 

This obviously wasn't Elliot's best game. Perhaps it will give them a little jolt for the rest of the road to Rupp...they need to stay focused and take care of business.
