Big Slick
Congrats to both teams and good luck to Elliott in the finals and the rest of the way! I am so tired of people complaining about the refs, all the coaches have equal say in the refs who get the postseason, so complain to your head coach and do something about it. I actually went to a game and rooted for neither team and heard many fans from one side (which I sat on) complain the whole game and their team had 3 fouls called on them the whole game! This for sure was not the easiest matchup in the state by no means, way to win a tough game Elliott County!
JPP
Is it possible that East got off to a slow start because Baker was preparing for Elliott from day one? I have had that impression from the start of the season, and may be wrong, but if this is the case I have to tip my hat to Brandon Baker! You almost pulled it off. Either way I have the utmost respect for the East Carter staff.
Big Slick
East Carter has a great staff and I think any team that had high expectations knew they had to go through Elliott Co.
addout
Congrats to the Lions of toughing it out against the best team that they will see in the district or the region. Good luck the rest of the way.
Big Game Player
Glad to see Elliott advance. I knew this one could be dangerous for them.
Fatman
Congratulations EC. Who would have thought you would get bad officiating in the 16th region?
Matlock
OK, I have been asked and as was said earlier, BOTH teams got away with a lot of stuff in this one. I don't feel the officials had any impact in the outcome of the game. The only stat that jumps off the page to me was the fact that Elliott Co shot 27 free throws compared to 10 for East Carter. It was a physical ball game and Elliott Co took advantage of the drive to bucket. Ethan Faulkner shot more free throws than did the entire Raider team. East didn't drive and try to create the contact in my view. That's not their game. Did Barnhill get clobbered a couple of times? Sure he did. But so did Knipp. I saw a couple of horrible calls in this one, but nothing that influenced the outcome of the game. So no blaming the officials gang....they had nothing to do with the outcome of this one in my opinion. I am a big supporter of the officials, you guys who know me and listen to me know that. However, I have to tell the listener what I see. I saw a charge call tonight that was quite possibly the worst block/charge call I have ever seen. It didn't change anything in the game, I was just shocked and amazed that a top ranked official in this region made that call. That's my opinion, blast away if you must!! As usual, you got it exactly right, my friend. The players on both teams put out maximum effort and east played the way many of us thouoght they could all season. Jackson and Barnhill could not have been better. Elliott continually drove to the basket leading to the foul shots. One official was absolutely horrendous (both ways) while the other two did a good job. Officiating did not determine the outcome of the game. Incidentally, what a great atmosphere for a high school game. the gym was packed and vocal for each team. Elliott survived a tough game with arguably the second best team in the region on that team's home floor. Survive and advance is all that matters now. LRCW
Congratulations to Elliott County. No disrespect to anybody else intended, but I really don't see anybody else threatening the Lions the rest of the way. I think East Carter had the best chance to beat the Lions. Good luck to Elliott County the rest of the way. I certainly hope they are able to win it all. If they do win the State Championship, spindoc and myself will come to Sandy Hook and treat Dale and the boys to dinner at the Penny Mart.

sport09
I was at the game and the refs were bad both ways. The free throw count was lopsided because Elliott took the ball to the basket more and East settled for a lot of threes. This was a great game to watch and East played there hearts out. That being said good luck the rest of the way Elliott. :thumb:That's the way it looked from the "cheap seats" as well.
cat_fan
Great win for the Lions. Many of posters have pointed out many good points about a win is a win. That registers for this game great because we knew coming into this game that Elliott would be in a dog fight and BIG hats off to East Carter because they have a great team. I was at the game and seen many many blown calls but I have to agree with the majority and say that it had NO affect what so ever on the outcome; both teams had their chances to win that game and Elliott proved to be the best team. Way to go Lions!!!!! :dancingpa
16thBBall Fan
I think that was the largest crowd to have ever been at a basketball game in the Harold L. Holbrook East in the 29+ years of the gym. IMO Be interesting to know what the take was at the gate for that one.
