9th Region Baseball Discussion

Will they all be staying at Villa? I know in year's past that Villa has had problems with 8th graders playing varsity and then going on to other highschool's.

All the 8th graders except one will be attending Villa next year. So, that is a better ratio than previous years.

Scott has at least 2 8th graders that played freshman last year at 7th graders (one started) both should play this year. On our AABC team, all but the Catholic school kids are playing school ball. Most KY 8th grade AABC teams don't start their season unitl after school baseball is done.

:ohbrother::ohbrother:

Beechwood has Larrimore, Bertke, and Colosimoor Hall as 2, 3, 4. Hall and Colosimo could vary in order.

I think you forgot the Snyder kid. :eek::eek: Have not seen Larimore pitch. Bertke is a decent pitcher; but he will be needed in the field. Beechwood this year will be very thin at the other positions.

Pretty sad that they are struggling to field a team just 3 years removed from a District Championship. When Meier started the program, they played 8th graders year in and year out who often wound up at CCH (Quast, Sutton, Ford, etc.) or Beechwood (Neumann, Potter, etc.). The last several years there, Meier always had them competitive (above .500), developed pitching, and even had a JV program which helped things remain consistant. I know there are plenty of boys in the school. Why has the program regressed so quickly? From what I understand, Welte (who helped Meier) and Sawyers (???) are decent.

Welte and Sawyers are both excellent coaches and got a lot out of the kids the past 3 years. However, the track coach is recruiting like crazy all year long and is a teacher at the school. I have heard that the track team has 40 boys including the Schroth boy who was to be their ace this year. Meier did a good job of fending off the track team idea, but obviously the track team got started and is now dominating in recruitment. What a shame!

Chas Hyde looks to shake things up this year for the Tigers, he is gonna be rusty coming off a successful basketball season, look for him to put up solid numbers for Beechwood this year.

Interesting early season matchup between CCH and Highlands.

when?

I think March 30th.

Holy Cross plays Highlands, Conner, Cov Cath, and Lex Cath in the first week.

Is Roenker pitching every game?

lol, oh my.

To be honest, and maybe it is because of the very situation you're exploiting in that post, but he didn't impress me all that much. No doubt he is Holy Cross's best option though.

Holy Cross is playing some stiff competition that first week wow!

That is where a school like Heritage is good for kids that want to play baseball and basketball and not good enough for the bigger schools. Not only that, they get a good education there. All those kids that tryout for Ryle and Boone and Cooper that get cut could make a school like Heritage a little more competitive in which they should be this year.

I think Villa is a better academic school and better at athletics then Heritage. Look how much success the baseball team and basketball team has had.
