Clay's take on Gillispie's interviews

Featured Replies

Billy Clyde Gillispie fails to understand that he is grossly overcompensated (2 million + per year) to live and work (can you call it that) at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky..........the home of:

Great basketball

Beautiful Horses

Fast Women

Fine Bourbon

It seems obvious he likes all the above!

For some of the trivial things that he doesn't care for (like speaking to the Rotary Club, and interviewing with Jeannine Edwards at halftime), he needs to realize that the alternative for him might be living in a double wide back in West Texas, coaching basketball at Northwest Eastern Texas State Junior College, and making $12,500.00 per year. I bet the coach there doesn't have to do inconvenient fund raisers or uncomfortable interviews at halftime.

John Clay is dead on correct in his article!

Had to make one correction for you.:laugh::laugh:

He's probably having a tough time because "he couldn't hear the question"!!

My question is, is he, or any coach legally obligated to stop and do the interview by ESPN's contract with the SEC?

Pitino said no last night...

I say the halftime interview should be eliminated. Coaches have alot on their minds at halftime and dont need to be bothered by reporters. In my opinion interviews should be done with the winning coach after the game. That way there probably wont be any negative comments from coaches.

As if the media doesn't get enough crap about biases, now you want the media only to report one side of the story at sporting events? Wow.

He really came off as a jerk in this most recent interview, I'd say Edwards will probably begin interviewing the other coach. If you can't deal with the answering the media's questions at a major college such as Kentucky, maybe coaching isn't for you.

I plagarized that from a history of Kentucky article.

It's "women", Tony!

I'll say this.....Mike Krzyzewski doesn't like the halftime interview, he sends Collins to do them. BCG needs to find someone else to do them, and this all would be squashed.

Many posters here give Pitino the same pass on his treatment of the media. He dud seem to be worse at UK. I realize I am a rare bird to criticize Pitino in some aspects, but this is, and never has been one of them.

I guess we'll start interviewing the Manager's in baseball each time they make a trip to the Pitcher's Mound! There are far too many reporters who don't need to be where they are when they are. The interviews should be pre-game or post-game not at halftime.

BCG is coming off as a classless jerk. It's embarrassing to me as as UK fan and alumni. He is doing himself no favors. He needs to watch film on how Rick and Tubby handled these matters. If UK's on the court performance doesn't improve, these stunts will fast lead to his downfall.

Well, if you'll notice, this is a trend in the major sports, it seems. During the playoffs and on the Sunday Fox broadcast they would do a 3rd or 4th inning interview; and the NFL does the halftime interviews, of course.

I heard him say earlier this year that he did not hear the question. Both times it was like he just blanked out. I am so glad to have his personality as the UK coach.

Maybe, just maybe Billy G asked her for a drink after a game and she told him no. Maybe Billy Clyde don't take rejection well. :D

I thinking she may not be his type. :sssh::lol:

Jim is dead on. Although what do you think is driving this trend? It seems like most of us on here are not fans of the in-game interview, so not sure what is the driving factor.
