The Scribe Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Didn't take long for things to heat up between Tennessee and Florida Signing day has passed, but the bullets are still flying between Tennessee and Florida. Thursday morning at a recruiting celebration banquet, Tennessee head coach Lane Kiffin accused Florida's Urban Meyer of a recruiting violation in the recruitment of Pahokee, Fla. wide receiver Nu'Keese Richardson. Kiffin's allegation: that Meyer repeatedly called Richardson while he was on his official visit to UT. STORY LINK
CoachBuckett Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 This will be fun to watch unfold. Kiffin may want to understand his role and shut up.
98NCCalum Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Kiffin may want to understand his role and shut up. Why? If he is telling the truth and it is a violation then why can't he speak up?
gametime Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 This is considered a pretty big no no by the NCAA...
98NCCalum Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 This is considered a pretty big no no by the NCAA... Which is exactly why I am suprised anyone would not understand why an oppposing coach, who obviously has some ground to make up, wouldn't want to speak up and call him on it.
katbird Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Which is exactly why I am suprised anyone would not understand why an oppposing coach, who obviously has some ground to make up, wouldn't want to speak up and call him on it. Totally agree..
Clyde Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Lane certainly doesn't care what others think. He's already on record as saying he took the best coaches from other schools and now has the best staff in the SEC. You gotta love the SEC.
NkuRoyal31 Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Why? If he is telling the truth and it is a violation then why can't he speak up? Obviously he just opened his mouth and gave UF another reason to stomp on UT. According to the article coach's are allowed to call recruits even if their at another school visiting. So there was nothing wrong with what Urban did and Kiffin should eat some crow and apologize. Maybe he's just mad Spurrier called him out for what he did he first few weeks on the job, but I for one dont want to tick off the defending national champions with all the fire power they have coming back.

So which is it?
MountainThunder Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 So which is it? Apparently, it is not a violation according to the NCAA. In response to our inquiry, The NCAA sent us the following e-mail answer: "It is not a violation of NCAA rules for a coach to contact a student athlete while they are on an official visit to another school. I recommend contacting the SEC for conference rules regarding contact, but generally speaking, it is not a violation of NCAA rules. Bylaw 13.1.3 outlines the specific NCAA telephone contact rules."
SPORTY GUY Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Why? If he is telling the truth and it is a violation then why can't he speak up? Florida AD Foley has called SEC Office. It is not against rules to a player visiting another school. All I have to say to Tennessee coach keep on talking about what you are going to do to Florida. Just remember what happened to Georgia this year if you rile the GATORS. Hope Tennessee does get better because games are starting to get onesided.
oldrambler Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Lexington WKYT news sports director Rob Bromley just reported that the SEC has repremanded Kiffin and he is to issue an apolgy. Bromley reported that it (Meyers call) turned out that was not against rules and was the reason for the action by the SEC. http://www.wkyt.com/sports/headlines/39162612.html So, looks like Kiffin was the one way out of line. I personally don't care either way, I don't like either one of them.
STRIKE3 Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 I like his willingness to speak out but he should know the Rules, before making an allegation like that.
