I know he hasn't been very valuable on game day but to label him a waste is a bit harsh. Tons of guys like him on every team, the fact is most believe you can't teach height and I have to agree, sometimes you have to take a shot and hope a kid improves. Carter has been injured for most of his career, but that doesn't mean he isn't valuable during practice.

No.

He definitely did not pan out like I thought he would, I mean I didn't think he was going to be a superstar, but i thought he would at least contribute in games during his career.

There have been other guys that didn't get much PT. Alot of them were from Kentucky. Tackett, Carrier come to mind.

Stockton...

Mike Williams never even played a minute did he but it was only a 1 year mishap?

If he were valuable in practice he would be playing more.

Brandon Stockton, Josh Carrier, Shagari Alleyne.....

Tubby picked up several of those - unfortunately, he seemed to always choose the wrong ones.

Let's be fair here. No one will ever no for sure the impact Carter's injury's have had on his development. Once one gets injured sometimes it's hard to get your confidence back. He has also endured a change of coaches which in his case may have not been a positive. He could have quit, but he has hung in there and at least fulfilled the role of the student athlete and as far as I know he has never embarrassed the university like many others who have been "worthy" of a scholarship.

Tubby overcompensated for some very key misses by going after Carrier and Stockton, and then the experience with them (as well as other talented players in the class) led him to pass on Lofton.

Carter makes Obrzut and Thomas look like All-SEC players.

This is nothing new. Kentucky has always had hit and miss with in-state talent.

Here's a few that didn't pan out too well:

Tim Stephens (was on the roster in '77, '78 and till Xmas '78) and never produced anything.

Todd May did little to nothing and left the team midway of his Freshman year believing he was somehow better than Kenny Walker.

Joey Holland rode the bench in the 70's if memory serves.

Merion Haskins rarely set the world on fire and was certainly no Clem Haskins.

Other than mop up what did Leroy Byrd ever do for UK?

Jared Carter is just another in the long list to me. It's a crap shoot and you never know who is going to bust and who is going to pan out.

You hate it when things don't work out for young people.
