No kidding, good for him.

Yup. He was actually on a short segment of the Today show with a couple of the other guys.

Shag is the second-tallest Globetrotter in history.

I have no Scott County ties. Considering he is completing his degree, and has caused no trouble with the team or got into any on his own, he is not the worst.

Then whos worse?

I would say anyone who walked out on the program without contributing and/or caused serious problems with the team. As far as someone keeping their scholarship for the duration, it's harder to argue.

If he had walked out we could have given the scholly to someone more deserving and talented.

Parker. Carruth.

Funny part is that if Carter would have chosen UNC, whether he was playing or not, many of you would be blasting Tubby for letting another instate talent get away and how he could be helping KY. The fact is that 7 footers don't grow on trees and sometimes you take chances that don't pan out.

Chuck Hayes was not that widely recruited but how many UK fans wished that OTS hadn't given him a scholly?

I agree with most of what you said, but I have to respectfully disagree with this part. I don't think Carter could contribute at Morehead State University.

My comment was IF he would have taken Roy Williams scholly offer and went to UNC, .. even if he was on the bench there, many UK fans would have been furious that Tubby let a 7 footer to out of his own backyard.

Roy's still laughing.

Can someone answer this for me. Did he even start in the state tournament for Scott County his senior year? How many UK players never started there high school games because it wasn't best for their high school team for him to play?

That would be a waste of a true scholarship by my definition.

I think you have some erroneous information.

I think Carter's injury has hurt him and is still hurting him. Watching him in warmups, he just seems uncomfortable with that shoulder. I have always felt he would have had an enjoyable basketball career if he had went to a smaller college. Happy Osbourne could probably have found room for him at Georgetown.

UK and all other schools give scholarships to boys who are never ever make it as a major college player so they either ride the bench for 4 years or quit and go to a smaller school. NAIA schools are full of division 1 players who couldn't make it or leave because of playing time and some flunk out.. Sometimes because boys score a lot of points in HS ,they think they can play anywhere, not true. It takea a special talent, usually with size ,to play college ball at any level. I've seen a lot of boys play this past year and have only seen a few that are major division 1 players. Parents and boys don't realize what's out there until you get there. It's a tough game. Just make a note of the Ky HS boys who make the ALL STATE TEAM from year to year and watch them over the next 4 years and see how they check out. Four years of a free education is a great thing, that's what it's all about.

Carter wasted his time going to UK. If he had went to NC they would have taught him to play tall and he would have practiced against and learned from other tall guys. I am not a NC fan but UK still hate to pass to their tall guys right. Carter should not have played his frist year no matter what until he got his strength and movement together, he would have got the LOVE at NC
