All nine games...

And they've been overrated all nine games. I mean, #3? Come on.

Smith is one of the best coaches in the country.

We can point to a host of reasons why UL lost this game, or why Minnesotata won this game, but this here is the biggest reason. Anybody that has kept up with Tubby's teams know that was a prototypical game... get the ball out of the post, force your opponents to take jump shots. Pretty simple.

Partly because Padgett was a leader... something they need and can't find.

I think the biggest thing they lost in Padgett was his leadership. Every team could use a kid like Padgett.

Great point

Why is Tubby considered a class act? He left the UK program in shambles. Force feed his son as the point guard, basically quit on the job 3 years before he officially quit, and took over $2,000,000 on his way out the door.

Sure he is a nice guy but stand up people don't lay down on the job and then quit and leave the mess for someone else to clean up. Face it the UK program is still digging out of his hole.

After that ultra talented class with Morris, Crawford, Bradley and Rondo, he had some hits/misses. However, I will take Meeks, Stevenson and Harris. He did have a few duds in there, no doubt. But then again, every coach does.

The reason that Saul had to play PG was that neither Pitino or Tubby could get a PG with Wayne Turner running the show. Then when Tubby came, other coaches used his son as a way to keep some from considering UK. He did get Hawkins and once Cliff's asthsma got more under control, he became a pretty good PG.

He did not leave a mess or a shambles as you seem to believe. In fact, if you are going to be totally honest and factual about it, ... who did UK lose from Tubby's last year that mattered? Morris. Who stepped into that spot? Patterson. Who would you take between the two? Patterson, hands down. So BCG was left with basically the same team with a slight upgrade from Morris to Patterson and he won more games than BCG? How is that possible if he 'quit' on them?

Don't let your dislike for Tubby cloud the facts. Fact is that Tubby class act who probably stayed a year or two longer than he should have. Today's UK fans will never see a coach stay 10 years ever again in hoops. He wasn't 'negotiating' a deal before the SEC tourney, however, he did tell his agent to check for opportunities as he felt he was ready for a change. He never said the things about UK fans being unrealistic as Pitino did, yet are you going to give him a pass?

I agree with some of the things you say, but to say a Junior and Senior class at UK that consist of the three guys you mentioned is OK, that's giving a pass. Meeks is the only high caliber player from two straight years. Stevenson and Harris are questionable role players at best, at your high profile programs...ie wouldn't get off the bench at UNC.

Facts are, Tubby never was treated right by lots of UK fans. Facts are, he also got lazy in the recruiting ring. He recruited hard everyother year or so. I do believe that Tubby was about to land Patterson and Jai Lucas before he bailed. I do think that Tubby saw the handwriting on the wall with this Junior and Senior class, and I don't think he could have ever gotten what BCG did out of Crawford and Bradley.

Tubby is also one of the best bench coaches in the game IMO. I hope that he continues to have great success at Minn.

Good post, :thumb: .

My sources in WV said that Patterson was coming to UK. However, I am not sure he was going to get Jai Lucas.

I agree that this year's senior class (which now consists of only Carter) was not good. Would have been interesting to see how much guff Tubby would have taken if Carter would have taken the offer to UNC instead of UK. I like Stevenson and of course LOVE Meeks. While I love and respect Tubby, it was time for him to move on. He is one of very few coaches who have ever taken 3 different teams to the Sweet 16 (Pitino being another, but RP has taken 3 different teams to the Final 4).

Yeah my sources at UK said that Lucas and Patterson had a press conference scheduled at the McD's game in Louisville to announce their decision together (this was the week after Tubby resigned). The kicker is, my same source said that Morris had told Tubby that he would come back for his senior season if they landed those two recruits.

That is how miserable Tubby had gotten at UK!!!

I disagree with you on that. I think if you're unranked and you beat a team that is top 10 in the country, then you are just telling the truth by saying "overrated..."

U of L has been overrated all season...

Or couldn't it be that the team you beat is really deserving of their ranking, and your team isn't getting the respect it deserves?

Might as well chant "We're not this good"... ;)

Pretty much....

Slice it any way you see fit but the UK Basketball Program was in absolute shambles when BCG took over. He has on Kentucky caliber player in the junior and senior classes.

He quit and took over $2mm for his trouble. Class act? I guess it depends on your definition.

It is funny...but do you know who recruited like that?

Scott Rigot and I am not kidding.

I have spoken with three assistant coaches and they told me, UK was easily the laziest staff on the trail the last couple of years.

Until he changed jobs two years ago, my nephew was an assistant coach at a NAIA school that has a very good basketball program. He told me the same thing, that UK had one of the laziest recruiting staffs in the U.S. when Tubby was there, at least for a major program. He said they lost out on some very good players that, with a little more attention, they would have probably signed.

Tubby's coaching was not the problem, and he's proven that now. But he and his staff dropped the ball on the recruiting front in his last years at UK. And I don't care if you combind Rupp, Wooden, and any 3 other greats, into a the perfect coach, you can't win without talent.

Because by saying the other team is overrated, you're saying that you beating them wasn't because your team is good or better than expected, but that the other team isn't as good. You're discrediting your own win by doing it.

We're not always on the same side of the fence, but I agree with you 100% on this one...cool-smiley-8933.gif
