CR, you failed to give credit to your favorite team (St. X. ) for winning the 4-A Title in 1978, which falls within the 30 year time frame; so please raise our total to 7. We held a 30-year reunion for these guys at a home game this year.

Don't expect to get that from a T or X supporter.

 

On the contrary. X lists every player on its roster in the program with the player's church/parish. It is open knowledge and there are no secrets. Trinity I notice lists the same info in its ad in the CJ at graduation. X has a student directory with every student's address.

 

Moreover, X provides a list of all students at X who attended JCPS to JCPS each year. In addition, X provides a list to JCPS of all students at X in the Seneca district, even if the student attended catholic grade school.

 

Lastly, I believe the numbers show that more Catholic elementary students attend Manual than public school students at X. A friend of mine's son did exactly that. the Dad told me about 20 of 40 on Manual's freshman team were Catholic elementary students.

Sorry Ox. I was just going on the past 30 champions (1979-2008). If we want to go to 31, then you are definitely correct. I think Mayfield gets another one as well.

In Cincinnati, the situation is similar except there are 4 big Catholic schools (Elder, St. X, Moeller and LaSalle). In Cleveland you have St. Ignatius, St. Edward and several others. These schools are probably just a hair better than Louisville Trinity and St. X (I know, I know ...Trinity beat Cinti. St. X this year. CSX was 4-6 this year and T beat them 17-6...think about that). I don't think there has been complaining in Ohio because there always seems to be a public school rival that is equal or better. In Cincinnati in the past it was Princeton vs Moeller. More recently it has been Colerain. There are other very good public school teams across the state Ohio that are very competitive with the private schools. In three of the big school title games in this decade, there wasn't even a private school in the title game.

 

So maybe the problem isn't T and X. Maybe the problem is the public schools need to step it up. Male has been there. There really is no reason why there shouldn't be public schools in the state and especially in Louisville, Lexington and N. Ky competing with T and X. Public schools need to get their act together, get the coaches and the facilities and the support necessary to compete. It can be done.

Amen...........dead on with the exception of the Ohio Catholic schools being just a little better than the Louisville Catholic schools. I know the results this season, but the gap is a lot greater than Kentuckians know.

In Ohio, Upper Arlington, Cleveland Glenville, Canton McKinley, Cincinnati Colerain have all won big school titles with about half the enrollment of the Cincinnati St. X's and Cleveland St. I's.

 

I am sure the same can be said for other states. I will say that in no other state is the dominance that the two Louisville schools have over others in big school football.

Hillard Davidson also won the big school title here in Ohio.

There are several schools on Ohio that approach the Catholic-school behemoths in terms of enrollment. There aren't more than 20 schools in all of Kentucky that have half the numbers that Trinity and St. Xavier have, and no one is really close to them.

So, in this thread I see that there is no solution (I knew that it was a rhetorical question in the first place), then I ask the question this way: Why do X and T win every year?

 

1. Is it because they work harder than any other schools? Then what do they do differently?

 

2. Is it because they get better athletes? How do better athletes just happen to live in their district and nowhere else?

 

Trick questions, and I know some won't say what they really want to say, but if X and T do it fairly, then there is nothing to debate. They are better and they have figured out a formula that is better than every other school in the States history at the big school level. But, I feel there are other issues that probably can't be debated...

Why do other states nearby like Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee, and West Virginia not have two private schools with a large male enrollment winning all the big school titles and having all the non-private school followers constantly complaining?

 

I have an opinion as to the answer.

 

 

Obviously you don't follow WV. sports a lot.

 

Its the opposite sizes though, in A and AA its Wheeling Central and the like that is dominant.

 

Problem is the WVSSAC is blatant that they can be bought, as all title games are at Wheeling Stadium.

Don't ever think that the coaching at Trinity and X is that far ahead of the rest of the state. It is ahead, but not as far as you would like to believe.

No slight against him, just pointing out the fact that T and X have factors and setups that make coaches look good. Again, T and X's coaches do a phenomonal job, but I think a lot of public coaches are right on par with them. It's a wee bit different out in the rest of the world.

The only thing that would make me agree with this is that they are privelaged with tools that others don't have, but I truly don't rank them "better" than the rest. I agree completly. They would may take over the FC's, HHS, Danville's etc... and keep them winning, but how much of an impact would they make on a Dayton, Brossart or Bracken County???
