Guys there is really no need to fight about it. After a second person is injured and quite severly who would even want to be on the crew. I know it is a wonderful tradition and quite intimidating for visting teams but it is over. Find a new tradition and enjoy your program as being one of the best in the state.

I'm not really an expert but I seriously doubt that static electricity ignited the powder. Black powder is a fair conductor of electricity but I think it would take much more current than could be provided from a static-like source.

I should have added a static electricity spark ,like a spark when flint strikes steel . I'm sure you have seen sparks from static electricity .

It wasn't a static charge or anything like that. But that's not important right now.

I reenact (War Between the States) and we have seen cannon accidents before.

They can be fairly dangerous and nasty injuries. Burns, mostly, but there can be some real extremity damage if one goes bad.

Prayers go out to this family and the victim of the accident.

You guys are either too close to this situation or you are simply not thinking properly. This has nothing to do with likelihood of an accident. If a kid falls off of his bike or a driver wrecks their car the Ft Thomas school board and the citizens of Ft Thomas are not going to be liable. If a referee gets hurt by a cannon or a player gets hurt from an accidental discharge the city of Ft Thomas is in trouble. Period.

As a HHS alumni I agree. As much as we would all like the cannon to stay the attorney's and insurance companies are going to say NO WAY.
