I do believe the FT school board will have no choice but to discontinue the cannon. Its not worth the risk.

Hard telling, I don't care to speculate, but I could respect and understand whatever they choose to do.

As to the future of the cannon, I believe there was another school in KY that used a cannon and had an accident earlier this season. How was that handled and resolved? How many schools in the state use a cannon or have stopped using one in recent years?

My heart is just sick over this terrible accident. Our joy in winning a state title is tempered (to say the least) by this injury. The man who was injured is one of the nicest, kindest people I know. No one deserves something like this; but it seems twice as bad when it happens to such a good guy -- especially on the heels of his son's injury.

 

All I ask is that we not speculate right now. There is a lot to this situation; and all the facts will be public knowledge soon enough. For now, let's just pray that he recovers as much as possible and that some good can somehow come of this for the family and the community.

 

I've purposely avoided using the word "tragic", because that would imply that all is lost. I know the man that was injured--and know that he is tough and resiliant. He will be okay. His life won't be just the same as it was yesterday; but it will be good again soon.

Scott County discontinued after a fireman walked in front of the blast, and blew out both eardrums, he also suffered from burns.

See that's what I'm thinking could be a possibility. It eases the minds of those who think it should go, and appeals to those who think it should stay. I believe they refer to that as a compromise. I don't know, because I don't believe in them.

But there are ways to make it pretty close to full proof, those just haven't been the practiced methods in the past. Like I said, either way if acceptable in my mind.

Kinda what I figured, but if there was any sort of "certification", just you know, something more that could be done to make the naysayers feel better, or appease them. That's what I think could keep the cannon. I'm an H fan in regards to I respect their acomplishments and alot of it comes from tradition. I would just hate to see the program lose any part of that. On the other hand, as I stated previously, if the people in charge feel that the ole cannon has to go, well I wouldn't argue against their point much either.
