FSU's Rolle Named Rhodes Scholar

Featured Replies

The often criticized and maligned Florida State football program, has a student-athlete Myron Rolle, than was just named a Rhodes Scholar.

Rolle is Rhodes Scholar

The Rhodes Trust named Rolle one of 32 U.S. Rhodes Scholars for 2009 - the first time in nearly 25 years it has awarded the scholarship to a prominent college football player.

From the article....

"I feel very fortunate to have been selected as a Rhodes Scholar," Rolle said. "I've learned so much just by going through the process of application and interviews, and I am a better person for it. The interview process requires candidates to evaluate their long-term goals and plans, and it has made me think about how I can make the most impact in terms of service to society. The whole experience has been inspiring, and I appreciate the assistance of so many faculty and staff at Florida State as well as the encouragement and support of my football coaches."

Great, positive story and accomplishment by this young man.

I think I heard he is graduating in 2 and a half years and in pre med. Thats pretty crazy considering that he is also a big time football prospect.

Very inspiring story.

The Seminole nation is quite proud of Myron, and it is certainly nice for a school with a very black reputation as it comes to the classroom to have this achievement.

When he went to FSU and chose it over schools like Notre Dame, Michigan and Stanford, he said one of his goals was to show other student athletes that you could be a great student at FSU.

I think he has done that!

Awesome story. I saw this on ESPN a week ago or something but I'm glad to hear he got the scholarship. Truly an inspiration.

Great story, great for the kids...Bowden needs to bring in more guys like this.

Words probably cant explain the character this guy is. Im not familiar with what that scholly is but I assume it will go along way for him as he continue's his education. An outstanding feat for Rolle.

Perfect. After he knocks your brains out during the play, he'll be qualified to put them back in!

This young man obviously has his stuff together.

Equally as impressive is the story of the son of former Ohio State qb Rod Gerald who is a footballer at Yale. Both parents were out of his life early and he he grew up poor in a rough Dallas neighborhood. Fast forward to him getting into and excelling at Yale and being named a finalist for the Rhodes Scholar award.

It is good to hear this kind of news. Rolle is a prime example of what a student/athlete should be.

A UCLA o-lineman also earned this distinction.

Every school could use more young men like this. However, these days, these types of young men are the exception. Hats off to this young man with a very bright future!!! :thumb:
