I'm not going to get into the, "my cannon is bigger then your cannon" argument, but I really think this game is going to be a lot closer then many people think. So close, that I would not be surprised by either team winning.

Ram, have you seen either team play. It would be nice to hear from anyone who has seen both teams play and can give an unbiased opinion. Obviously, we, as fans of the teams we know can't be very objective:sssh:

I have seen Johnson Central play, it was early in the season, and I have seen several teams play that Johnson Central beat. I have not seen an entire Highlands game, but I have seen some partial games.

Johnson Central has beaten several good teams, and have drummed some teams that I thought would be a lot closer then what the final score was.

Highlands is a very good team, and I am not taking anything away from that, but everyone seems to concentrating on Johnson Centrals size, they are big, but they are pretty athletic as well. They are not just big slow players. They are earth movers, but the backfield players are athletic.

As for a passing game, I know that Johnson Central does not pass that much, but they are capable of doing so. I wouldn't be surprised to see some Johnson Central passing game in this contest.

Again, I know Highlands is good, and has good team speed, but Johnson Central has good size and a very potent running game. I think one of the keys for this game will be who get up first. If one team gets a 14 point lead early, it may be all they need. But, the longer that Johnson Central stays with in one score, the better their chances are. Johnson Central can burn a lot of clock on offense, so if they get up, they may be able to stay up.

I will be surprised to see a 21, or more, point win by either team. But, if anyone is expecting a 50 point win, they will be sorely surprised.

Nice assessment. Very good points. :thumb: I think this game may be the type where the final margin doesn't indicate how close the game actually was.

We haven't heard much about JC's defense. Have they seen a well-balanced attack this year like the Birds and how did they do?

Johnson Central has allowed 1484 rushing yards and 908 passing yards.

Highlands has allowed 1584 rushing yards and 965 passing yards.

I know strength of schedule is going to be used to dispute this, but it is what it is. Take it for what it's worth. I have no dog in this fight, just stating what I see.

I don't think Highlands will have to sweat this game out.

I'll take the 'Birds...

28-6

They played Breathitt County to open the season, but our passing game isn't as good as it once was...and it definitely wasn't on point in the first game.

I thought Johnson Central had a very good football team. They pretty much dominated the first half against us and had a 14-0 lead. They allowed us to get back in the game with some big plays in the second half, before shutting the door and closing out a 26-14 victory. I would expect that they've improved since Week One as well.

Compared to Breathitt, they were a much bigger team. And, Breathitt has struggled recently with big teams that feature a run-heavy attack...

I suspect Highlands is a completely different animal with size and speed. I think Central will struggle to score in this game. Just my guess...

Johnson Central's stats are only for 10 games. Highlands are for all 12 games. I'd think both of Central's numbers would be a little higher than Highlands adding stats from 2 more games.

Stats for JC

Against Holmes:

JC: 561 rushing yards.

CC: 212 rushing yards/ 132 of those were in the 4th quarter after the starting D had gone out. 63 passing yards.

Against Cov Cath

JC - 653 rushing yards

CC- 95 rushing yards

93 passing yards.

These may not be exact but they are very close.

Does this mean that JC has room for the HHS Canon? Rumor has it that the Birds Nest will be dismantled and the the Big Gun will hit the turf in time for a trip to Paintsville.

NO :bunny:

As will Mr. Welch.;)

Central's schedule this year, very atypically for a mountain team, was chock full of balanced and pass-happy offenses: Breathitt County, Bryan Station, Shelby County, Woodford County, Paintsville, Hazard, Covington Catholic.

That's not to say that any of those offenses run as well as the Bluebirds' offense, but each of them were balanced or even pass-oriented unlike the usual slate of running teams one encounters in the mountain schedules, so the Golden Eagle defense has seen plenty of the football in the air this year.

Johnson Central's stats are only for 10 games. Highlands are for all 12 games. I'd think both of Central's numbers would be a little higher than Highlands adding stats from 2 more games.

Call Johnson Central and ask them to update their stats. That is what was posted, so that is all I could relay.
