NKU just signed the best point guard in the state!:thumb:

Look for a National Championship banner to hang from the new arena before

Ethan is through at NKU

I agree with several that he they got a steal and the best point guard in the state. Additionally, he has a ton of character and maturity and is an articulate well spoken bright young man when in front of the camera and media. He will be an outstanding coach at some level in the future.

Not only will there be a National Championship banner hanging in BOK arena before Ethan is through, there is one hanging before he starts. The NKU women's D-II 2008 National Championship banner was dedicated before the Louisville game last Saturday.

To answer tese statements, I am going to say not a chance. NKU will not be going Division I before his time is up here.

You may ask why do I say that, I'll tell you that the NCAA has placed a moritorium on anyone moving to the Division I level due to some schools who have no business of being there...and I mean absolutely no business of being there. The moritorium ends in three seasons.

You may say that would be during his time but the kicker here is the fact that once a school decided to "go DI" you have to have an exploratory season then four years of transition.

BUT the previous paragraph is basically a mute point since the NCAA is more than likely going to cap the number of schools that are in DI and they are likely to contract some schools/conference to DII or lower meaning that some schools/conference that are currently DI could be DII or DIII when all is said and done.

So with all of this being said, I don't see how anyone can think that NKU will be going Division I anytime soon.

As far as Ethan Faulkner deciding to come to NKU, it would have been mice to get both Faulkners but one is better than none. He sounds like a really good player and young man. We (the NKU athletics department) can't write a release about him until we get his paperwork. I will post it as soon as it becomes available.

So how long approximately do you think it will be until they do go D1?

Do you completely NOT get what I said? I don't think NKU will be going Division I in mine or your lifetimes.

Why is it such a big deal for people to not get that you don't have to be DI to have a successful athletic department?

I also agree with that statement. A free education is what it's all about. :ylsuper:

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky University men’s basketball head coach Dave Bezold announced Sunday that Elliott County High School standout Ethan Faulkner has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Norse.

Faulkner, a 6-foot-1 guard, averaged 16.1 points, 7.2 assists and 7.0 rebounds last season for Elliott County. He was named all-region as a junior and also earned the 16th Region Tournament most valuable player award. Faulkner is considered one of the top high school players in Kentucky this season.

Sorry man I must have misunderstood what you were saying and I never once have said that you have to go D1 to be succesful. Didn't realize I would get yelled at for asking a question on here I thought that's what this whole site was about for sports. :creepy:

You had a legitimate question. No one said they would never become D1, the post you asked about ONLY said "anytime soon"

His post might have only said "anytime soon" but I made it clear that NKU was not going DI anytime soon so that's why I responded the way I did. There are no plans of going DI and personally, I don't see the need to. Why go DI and be a bad/very mediocre athletic program when you can be DII and be a really good athletic program? Look at some of the schools that made the jump to DI that have absolutely no business going i.e. Houston Baptist and New Jersey Tech just to name a couple. Its schools like that that will make it hard to go DI in the future due to the NCAA eventually capping the number of schools that will be allowed to be DI and that number is liking to be a lot lower than the current number of schools meaning that there will be schools that will be forced into a lower division.

Now back to the real topic of this forum, Ethan Faulkner.

I saw him after the game on Saturday between Ferris State and Northern Kentucky....actualy Evan was there too. I didn't get to talk to them because they were talking to other people and all I heard was "yes sir/ma'am", "no sir/ma'am", "thank you", and "it was a pleasure to meet you". To the layperson, that speaks volumes of the character of those two individuals and how they were raised. I can't wait to have a conversation with Ethan or even Evan if they're back up here for a game. It is young men like that that make me love athletics...hard workers and great people.
