Race issues

Featured Replies

Based on the reactions that I have seen on television over and over and over, race was a major reason why Obama was elected. Most of the responses I have heard was that they voted for him because he was black and would be the first black President, something they did not think they would see in their lifetime.

Why are those that are supporting him because of his race not being labeled racists?

Is it okay to positively support someone for simply their race while it is not okay negatively?

What some people forget is Obama is not Black...He is Biracial...He is a true African American...His Father from Kenya,His Mother from Wichita,Kansas...

You can't get much more African American than that...Biracial President elect Obama was raised by his Maternal Grandparents from age 10...Who are of Caucasian race...

So people who voted for Obama because they thought He was a black Man...Wrong...

So people who did not vote for Obama because they thought He was a black Man...Wrong...

My Prediction for Obama concerning race is...

When He does something Positive that Most white people agree with but some Black People do not...Get ready for President Uncle Tom...

When He does something Positive that most black people agree with but some white people do not...Get ready for President/Racial slurs...

I will call Obama Biracial I will call him American whose father is from Kenya...

But I will not call him Black...I don't care if it is on his Birth Certificate...:thumb:

He is not the first Black President of the United States...He is the first Biracial President of the United States...

How many of us can say that we have only one heritage? I can't, yet if I ran for office, I would be just another white guy. Nobody would nitpick on whether I was 'pure white'. If you think that you are completely of one set of descendants, you should look a little closer. According to the Bible we all came from the same original earth birth parents, Adam and Eve.

The fact is that when looking at race (which shouldn't matter), he is the first African American President in our country's history.

He owes us all something, ... his best effort to do what is right for our country.

CNN's national exit polls say this:

White - 55% McCain, 43% Obama

Black - 95% Obama, 4% McCain

The thing that irks me most is how those numbers are rarely ever mentioned. Almost any time they mentioned race affecting the election, the percentage of white voters is what they brought up on the screen. I hate to think of what would have happened and what all would have been said if the white percentage for McCain had been 65%, much less 95%. You can try to sugarcoat it all you want, but its a double standard. It doesn't bother me that 95% of black people voted for Obama. It bothers me that despite much evidence to the contrary, racism in this election was always laid at the feet of "white" America. IMO, it was a virtual non-issue in this election that warranted little, if any, mention.

Racism in the world, not just America, will always exist. Its human nature for people to gravitate toward and identify with people more like them. Does that make you racist? Or does it make you racist only if you're in the majority?

Racism is one of many "isms" that will never go away because there will always be people who hate because of difference. However, the United States has a lot of bigger problems than racism. IMO, that's one issue on which the country has progressed and is currently progressing in the right direction to the point that's its not as big a deal any more.

Those numbers are unreal.

Could this become a trend ?

If most African Americans vote Democrat and as the numbers show, 95% of African Americans will vote for an African American Democrat, couldn't the democratic party basically assure themselves presidency by nominating an African American candidate ?

That's an honest question by the way. I'm not trying to get under Obama supporters skin. I pretty much strattled the fence on the election this year, I really didn't think either party had a suitable candidate running. B. Obama is the President of our nation and regardless of skin color, I hope he does well:thumb:.

Something like 88% of African Americans voted for Kerry. It is already a trend.

No. Because, according to their poll, blacks made up 13% of the total vote and whites accounted for 74%.

I don't think that democrats could count on getting 43% of the total white vote every election with a black candidate. Every election and every candidate is different. There were a lot of things working in their favor this time...the anti-Bush backlash, a huge drop in the economy just before the election, a charismatic candidate like Obama that captivated and inspired a lot of people of many different backgrounds.

There aren't that many people like Obama who can capture the moment, whose charismatic, inspiring, etc.

Hypothetically, if you had a black candidate with the charisma and personality of a Gore or Kerry, in an election with no huge hurdle for the right to overcome (like Bush), I think the results could be much different. In fact, I suspect the percentage of both blacks and whites voting for the democrat would go down...they may not go down equally, but both would drop, IMO. I'm sure there would be a certain percentage of people in both races who would vote based solely on skin color, but I don't think those people are numerous enough to significantly impact an election. Or maybe . . . you just THINK African Americans feel that way because of your framing story and how YOU see things.

So in this country when it comes to race and your white Your heritage means less compared to other races and nationality's?

I know race should not matter...I don't have a problem with it...I don't know why it is even mentioned...

So do you think Adam was from a different country than eve?...:D
