November 6, 200817 yr And I've talked to quite a few people who have said they would never vote for a black man, or that they were afraid to vote for a black man. Once again, it goes both ways. I understand that. What I'm trying to understand is why is one considered racism, but the other not?
November 6, 200817 yr Anyone heard the stuff from Howard Stern, it can be found on youtube. Essentially they went into an inner city area asking people who they were voting for, all of them said Obama. After which they would do follow up questions like "Do you support Obama because he believes we should stay in Iraq as long as it takes?" Or "Do you agree with Obama about his stance in being against stim cell research?" All which said they agreed with his views, which were actually McCains views, ha the best thing was the people agreeing that Obama had made a good choice in choosing Sarah Palin as his running mate. It's funny stuff to say the least.
November 6, 200817 yr I understand that. What I'm trying to understand is why is one considered racism, but the other not? Probably because the African Americans are voting FOR Obama because he is black, not against McCain because he is white. And the white people (the ones who are afraid or will not vote for a black man) are voting for McCain because they do not want to vote for a black person. Does that make any sense? I'm not saying it's right, I'm just trying to explain why I think some consider one racist and the other not.

I've heard that same reason quite a bit actually...

November 6, 200817 yr I understand that. What I'm trying to understand is why is one considered racism, but the other not? To me they both are. I have a few friends that are African American that when we discussed why they supported Obama it sounded like one of his commercials, they supported change, and liked his idea for spreading the wealth around. Nothing more than that, likely what they'd heard on a recent commercial brake. Though there were several that said for lack of better words, that they had to support their own. On the other hand I know of another gentlemen that votes straight deomcratic party every election he's ever taken part in that felt that he couldn't vote in this election. I just feel as though he was a minority in that thinking.

I knew of only a few who didn't vote at all because they "couldn't" vote for McCain, I really can't think of any that voted for McCain, in order to vote against Obama, I'm sure it happened, just saying. I wanted a black president in my lifetime, just not this guy.

It's funny stuff to say the least. I have seen videos of people online saying much worse in support of John McCain. Calling Barack Obama a terrorist, saying "Bomb Obama", and one child even said, "You need gloves to touch him". Oh and one guy said, "I don't want to sound racist, but I don't want a black man running my country". These are all on youtube. I'm serious.

There's alot of stuff on youtube, if anything atleast the people you mentioned are admitting their ignorance in why they supported McCain, while the others looked just as bad in trying to disguise theirs. Either way it's ignorance plain and simple.

November 6, 200817 yr I would love to take your teacher on in a debate regarding this one. Hate is hate. I agree, but I figure that I should just take my A and move on, lol.
November 6, 200817 yr I find the youtube videos posted by sportsfan to be pretty funny because it shows they are simply voting on him based on color. Where the videos HB20 mention show pure ignorance.
November 6, 200817 yr I've said it before. There are blacks who didn't vote for President Elect Obama because he is black. I know this for a fact.
November 6, 200817 yr During the civil war era this might have been different, but now, I see no reason for someone (black or white) to hate another person based on skin color alone. Why should they then? 360,000 union soldiers gave their lives to the cause of reuniting the union and hence freeing the slaves. Hate for any reason is wrong. Racism is always wrong. Are we all prejudiced in some way? Yep. The thing we all need to stop and do is look at the issues from the other side. I completely understand the African American vote during this election cycle. It would be no different than if someone from my part of Kentucky ran for President, the vast majority of people in this area would support them because they would feel right or wrong that they had a connection to them. HB20 by the way your post on this thread have been exceptional.
