During the UK coaching search, who did you want?

Featured Replies

During the University of Kentucky's head basketball coaching search a year and a half ago, who did you hope that Kentucky would choose?

Billy Donovan? Caipari? Pearl(:creepy:)? Barnes? d'Antoni?

Chime in with your pick and reasons.

Billy Gillespie.

I had told many of this months before Tubby left. If you can boost Texas A&M, you can boost just about anything.

I have to be honest. At the time I knew very little about Coach G. My first choice was Donovan. The more I read, and found out about Coach G, then he was my top choice after Donovan turned down UK.

In the thread we originally had that asked, I said I wanted either of the Billys. I didn't have a preference either way, as long as it was one of the two.

I'd seen an interview with Gillispie early in the year, and I was sold on him from there.

Billy D or Billy G.

Wait... it there an echo in here?

I'm really happy about Billy G though. I think he really appreciates the program and brings an excitement that has been missing.

I remember watching the Texas A&M/Memphis game, and saying that whichever team lost, that coach would be the new UK coach....Glad A&M lost because he was my choice.

I really wanted a Tom Crean or a Rick Barnes but I am so pleased with what we got

Donovan, who is still my preference, but I think BCG will be fine.

Billy D was the hottest coach in the nation at the time. He was coming off 1 championship and working on his second. Any fan in the nation would have been stupid for not wanting him to be the head coach of their team. He had ties to UK. He was the obvious 1st choice.

I really didn't have a second choice. I had no doubt that UK would get a quality coach.

I'm very pleased with the way things shook out for us. There weren't any bad coaches in the mix for the UK job. Some were better options than others, but none of the candidates that were in the running would have been a bad choice in my opinion.

Billy G. seems so genuine when speaking about our program. He takes as much pride in it as we fans do. He's a hard worker and is proving that he can bring the talent in. I'm happy with what we have.

Pretty much sums it up for me as well.

If you all want a good laugh, please go back and read all the "Billy D to UK" threads. Priceless....

Why go to the trouble there are plenty of current ones that will do the same thing.:laugh:

As a non UK fan, I did not want them to take Billy D. I am glad he did not come.:D

I wanted Billy D or Coach Calipari. I am glad Coach Gillispie got the job. I have had the chance to meet him and his staff. They are tireless workers and not much gets by them on the recruiting trail. They are very concerned with keeping the top talent in Kentucky at UK. They do not want to lose anymore kids to out of state colleges. Lofton and Hopson come to mind. I do know they are in touch already with a few KY kids in the current 7th & 8th grade classes in this state already :D. I am very impressed with Coach Gillispie, Cox, Webster & Cyprien!!!
