I don't know anything about either team, but I'm guessing its just because they aren't on each other's schedules.

Thats a very good point. I don't know much about the money Corbin brings in, but it seems like a lot of their decisions isn't based at all on having a good gate at home games or getting local rivalries.

 

I think the Football team gets concessions from the pigskin, and the playoffs. The band gets concessions from the regular season games.

 

I think the gate gets divided among all sports? I could be wrong on that.

When Whitley wanted to play Corbin didn't. When Corbin wanted to play Whitley didn't. Neither school like each other too much, and much like the Isriel and Egypt it will take and an outside influence like Jimmy Carter to bring them together.

 

Corbin will always say Whitley is at fault and Whitley will always say Corbin is at fault, but fact is both are guilty.

 

Side Bar: Corbin and Whitley were supposed to play last year in JV but Corbin cancelled due to the fact they did not have enough JV players. Maybe if they could get together on a Freshie or JV game the Varsity game would follow. BTW they do play at the middle school level with Corbin winning the 7th grade game this year and Whitley winning the 8th grade game this year.

 

 

Bottom line: Let the kids settle it on the field....PLAY!!!!!!!!!!!

Lawson deal? They lost another pretty good Lawson kid this year. Why does Whitley have such a hard time keeping the Lawson kids enrolled? They seem like good players and nice kids.

Jarrod came to Corbin before his sophomore year. The R word was thrown around a lot but he became eligible for the Bell County game on. The following year, Brad (no relation) came to Corbin. I assume Jarrod was a legit move but people will always throw the assumptions around when players of these two caliber leave. However, I can say with 100% knowledge that Brad was a legit move. I am not even sure that Coach Jewell and company were aware of Brad Lawson until he enrolled at Corbin. Brad was initially ruled eligible before the start of the district slate and played the last 3 or 4 games of the season. He was then ruled ineligble and didn't get to play during the playoff run to the State title game. That is the deal with the Lawson's. Things got testy between the schools during the rulings.

 

I'm pretty certain that Mr. Anderson still has some bad blood with Corbin and AD/former coach Campbell may still hold a grudge.

 

From all accounts I've heard, this is the same reason Corbin and Bell are having some issues just substitute Jarrod and Brad Lawson for T.R. Christopher.

 

I think with Coach Black at the Helm, Corbin and Whitley will square off soon.

I don't think the previous transfers of the Lawsons will have any effect on the current chances for a Corbin vs. Whitley matchup. I'm sure that there always will be some hard-feelings about kids who leave a program and move to another which is understandable.

 

However, I think the biggest pitfall in regard to actually seeing them take the field is scheduling. If you look at Corbin's schedule there are really only three or four possible dates that could work.

 

I don't see removing South from the schedule. It's too big of a gate for both schools.

 

North is a possibility and Bethlehem will not be on the schedule again.

 

Other than that the only other two spots would be that of LCA and Somerset. I'm not sure what the contract looks like with LCA and Somerset is a traditional rival.

 

With that being said, the Bethlehem spot is probably the most likely. Its early in the season and was a replacement for Bell Co. I wouldn't discount the possibility of a Whitley vs. Corbin matchup as soon as 2010.

 

Finally, I would not look for Corbin to play Bell as long as Jewell and Hilton are the coaches. Sad, but true.

Whitley has actually had several kids to transfer from Corbin over the years, you just don't hear much about it. The Sizemore situation is a little different and goes back to the Mike Whitaker days at Corbin. He left the Corbin system several years ago and his mom left Corbin last year for a job teaching and coaching at Whitley Co., his sister still attends Corbin and will graduate in May.

 

I'm not certain about Corbin's schedule other than either Danville and Boyle Co. will be on it and possibly both. Also look for LCA, Somerset, South & North Laurel along with the district games and one other team.

Agree, in games with W'burg or LC, nothing to gain, alot to lose. Whitley on the other hand a whole different story, IMO should play.

 

Hold on a second, nothing to gain from beating Williamsburg. I am not sure if that is true at all. It would be a a good series. It would have beem a good game this year. This game needs to be played. They should also play Lynn Camp. The schools are to close not to play.

I guess they could regain the upper hand by beating W'burg. Maybe this time Corbin wouldn't turn the ball over 7 times, as far as a "good series", not sure about that. If they played 10 years in a row Corbin would probley win 9 of those, but IMO that would be true of a lot teams they may play, not knocking the Jackets.

I do not see why anybody would believe that. They turned the ball over because they were exhausted from trying to cover (either that was the worst conditioned buch of kids or Williamsburg has a pretty good game plan). The same reason everybody turns the ball over a lot against the Jackets. The last time we played Corbin we won, and made them our home coming game. If I was a redhound fan, I would be pressuring Corbin to play this game just to get redemption for that alone.Corbin gets credit for a whole lot of things they really do not accomplish. The reason they do not schedule this game is that way Corbin fans can keep beliving they could win 9 out of 10 against the Jackets. Really does not matter, Coach Jewell will not schedule Williamsburg. Why do you think all Jacket fans want this game so bad? It is not because we expect to loose.
