How many times have the two teams played? I am sure Corbin probably does have an edge. You would have to go back to along time ago before you could even say. That is my point, take the history out of it. Everyone in the area is closing the gap on Corbin. Right now they are the second best team in the area and a very good football team (slightly behind Whitley just an opinnion not arguing). I just do not understand why they can not play a team in there own county that could give them a pretty good game every year. The last series was one game a piece, and Corbin would not play anymore. I just do not understand that.

 

The reason Corbin decided not to play Williamsburg in 2005 was because the Yellow Jackets lost a whole lot of talent off of the 2004 team and were not going to be very good. They were replaced on the schedule by LCA, a team that was much better than Williamsburg at that time.

And Pineville was a power house in mountain HS football before Bell County existed.

Things change. W'burg has a good program. LC has a good program. WC has a good program. Do we match up well with Corbin? No.

No one is taking that awy from them, but we should not think that Williamsburg could win 25% of their games against Corbin now, in this day and age. The down cycles would kill any chances of that.

 

Right now we are at 50% (that is talking recently not past), and then Corbin did not want to play no more. They should schedule Williamsburg bottom line.

IMO Corbin and Whitley should play, a huge crowd and hard hitting game and a toss-up many years. This got me to thinking why do W'burg and Whitley not play this would be a very good game as well. In the other county why do Knox Central and Lynn Camp not play as well, this game would make more sense than LC vs Whitley. Alot of great basketball games between these schools, I"m sure these would be great football games as well and Corbin would not even have to be in the picture.

I really don't think you would want Corbin after you got them on the schedule. The team that beat Corbin was one of the best W'burg teams of the last 25 years. This years' team is good, but I think they will drop off just a little after this year for a short period of time. Nothing drastic, but nowhere near Greer and Company for a little while. JMO.

We did the same thing after the '05 team. It's just hard for the 1A schools to have that kind of talent year in and year out.

Whitley Corbin should be an annual event, would be very competative year in and year out. There are 17 schools in Whitley, Clay, Knox, Bell, Harlan, Pulaski and Rockcastle. I just dont see why area teams have to play Bethlehem, Newport, Dayton, Jenkins, Churchill, Holy Cross etc, when there is good competition very close by with lots better gates that some of these teams will bring.

I DO understand scheduling can be difficult and some situations are unavoidable but I think ALL area coaches could year in and year out give a better effort to schedule games the fans and players would love and make the administration see $$$$$$ signs.

More credit than they deserve! You have got to be kidding yourself. Most years Corbin and Whitley would be a great game. I still give Corbin the edge! No offense to W'burg, but most years they could NOT compete with the Hounds! That one year being the exception in which the Jackets had a great team and barely came away with a win. Teams like LCA provide Great competition for The Hounds. I do wish we played the Bobcats though! Two thumbs up to my post :thumb::thumb: lol

The only reason the Hounds played Bethlehem was b/c they needed a game. Nothing more, nothing less. We only play Newport in the playoffs.

Corbin afraid of smaller schools? We played two of the best teams in single A - Pikeville & LCA - and beat them both.

Williamsburg won the game a few years back. Hang your hat on that one. Do you really think that Corbin wouldn't dominate the series? After all, the Hounds defeat the Jackets more times than not in every other sport. Why would football be any different?

Who said I was talking about Williamsburg? and in my argument I should have included Pikeville because they are normally considered one of the better class A teams in KY. I am talking about Lynn Camp and any of the other smaller school in the area. LCA went to state last year, so playing them is ok because if Corbin loses it's ok, they got beat by a state runner up. Bottom line. Corbin has nothing to gain from playing any of the local smaller schools, because they are expected to win and if they lose.... well why take that chance, it's just not worth it when you may get beat from time to time now because Corbin is no longer guaranteed a victory and it's just too scary a proposition to take a chance on it.

That one is pretty funny too. Corbin has one loss to a local team and you say everyone is closing the gap?

 

How many district championships has Williamsburg had in the past 20 years? region championships? State championship games win or lose?

 

What about Whitley? Lynn Camp? Knox Central?

 

This is Whitley's first year in many that that are getting any respect. I hope they continue. The last 5 years Whitley has a record 21-30, 8 of those wins have come this season, (Corbin has won 21 in the last two seasons) I'm a little confused how you consider them to have the best program. But, a lot of things you say confuse me....
