After thinking about it (for the past 15 seconds) I think a better thread title would be why don't Corbin and Whitley play? Because I don't know who doesn't want to play who. Could a moderator change it?

I don't know why they don't play but this year it would be one heck of a game IMO.

Corbin and Whitley traditionally have not played because the Whitley Co. program wasn't the rising star it has been over the past decade or so. I wouldn't rule out seeing this matchup in the next couple of years. I know there will be those who will say one is afraid to play the other. However, I have seen both of these teams play several times over the past few years and I don't think either one of the current Coaches (and definately not the players) would have any reservations about lining up against the other.

I would disagree about the coaches comment. Coach Black would love to get Whitley on the schedule (as would Williamsburg) but you will not see Coach Jewel scheduling this game.

I think you will see Corbin and Whitley play before too long. A few years ago, Whitley was in the Pigskin Classic at Corbin and was granted the right to choose their opponent. They selected to play Conner when Corbin was there for them to choose. With Coach Black there, I can see him wanting to schedule the game. Whether or not Lonnie Anderson allows it to happen is yet to be seen. Corbin would welcome the game.

 

I'd rather see Whitley than South Laurel on the schedule or do it on a rotating basis. You could have them both on there if you choose to and rotate someone else.

I don't think a lot of people at Whitley have forgotton the Lawson deals of years past, for that reason I don't see it happening.

 

It would be a good game but I could see Whitley winning on most occasions.

There may only be one opening for next year. Is it legal for Corbin to allow the highest bidder the chance to get on the schedule? If so, I would bid it out since so many want to play the HOunds.

 

Corbin will schedule Whitley Co............................................in 2013.

I've never been one for defending Corbin, but at some point they just have to say no. It's no secret Lynn Camp has wanted on their schedule for years. Knox Central is ready and willing now. South likes being there. Whitley and Williamsburg want in. North Laurel? Really, you can't play everyone.

Everyone wants them b/c they typically do have a good following and that means butts in the seats and money in the coffer. But if you are Corbin I guess you don't worry too much about money.

In some respects you have to understand Corbins point of view when it comes to a Williamsburg or Lynn Camp. If they win they are supposed to, if they lose, as they did to the Burg a few years ago, its not a good loss. Dont get me wrong I would love to see Corbin and Williamsburg lock horns again, but don't see it any time soon.

Thats a very good point. I don't know much about the money Corbin brings in, but it seems like a lot of their decisions isn't based at all on having a good gate at home games or getting local rivalries.

Agree, in games with W'burg or LC, nothing to gain, alot to lose. Whitley on the other hand a whole different story, IMO should play.

I'd like to play LC and Wburg occasionally. Maybe they would be a team we could rotate on the schedule. With all due respect, MOST (not all) years, it should be an easy win and provide a good gate. That could fit into the slot where a Bethlehem is. However, I'd ask for it to be at Campbell Field every year but split up the earnings.

 

Whitley is a game that should be on the schedule as well as Bell. Hopefully now that Campbell is not coaching, Corbin and Whitley can hook it up. Whitley has had some teams in the past that could provide a good game for Corbin and maybe even knock the hounds off in some years. It'd be a real exciting draw. I say that is a series that needs to be alternated with South Laurel. There are only so many games a team can play. You don't want to over-do the schedule but you don't want a bunch of junk on there either.
