Does South's attendance pick up that much when playing Corbin? I've never been to a Corbin/SL game but I've not been impressed with South's crowd against others.

 

Yeah, it does more for the Corbin game than it does for the North Laurel game. But I agree with you, in any other games, the attendance is poor.

But to say you hate a certain school or team is a little bit extreme for high school sports.

I can see disliking a rival or something.

Whitley would give Corbin all they want and more this year and they appear to have the athletes to do that for the next several years. Corbin is the traditional power but I believe Coach Black has got Whitley were they will be competitive on a consistent basis. Corbin vs. Whitley would be a head knocker and the game I would most want to see scheduled in the area.

 

They should play Whitley, it would be a great game most years. They play in every other sport, why not football?

I personally have no problem playing Williamsburg. I just don't think Corbin needs to redeem itself for a loss to Williamsburg. If the game were take place I'm sure it would be a good one, but the Hounds have much more lofty goals than to prove their worth to an opponent who is not a playoff rival.

Why not try to do both? Those two things do not conflict with each other in the least bit.

It seems I remember (don't hold me to this) that might have been Williamsburg's first and only win. Regardless, I would think Williamsburg might need to redeem themselves a few more times before they start talking smack. As would most local teams. Local being more than the tri-county.............

That is why I was wondering why anyone would ever think Corbin needed to redeem themselves over one loss. We beat Middlesboro in '05 after about 70+ years of trying. I really do not think they had to redem themselves. I think Corbin's last loss to W'burg was late 50's or early 60's. I know they had one other loss than the recent one, because I heard the radio replay once.

Corbin beat Whitley's Freshmen team last night 12-8.

I will just say this in the tri-county area Williamsburg is the second best team from a historical stand-point! Winning record against, Knox, Whitley, Lynn Camp, only one not Corbin.

When have they ever played Williamsburg? Was it when they were in the same district, before classifications? That was when Willard and Archie Powers was still at Williamsburg. It definetlty was not there only win against Corbin in the history, but they simply have not played. It is easy to say ther was not a win against Corbin, because it is hard to get one if they are not playing each other.

How many times have the two teams played? I am sure Corbin probably does have an edge. You would have to go back to along time ago before you could even say. That is my point, take the history out of it. Everyone in the area is closing the gap on Corbin. Right now they are the second best team in the area and a very good football team (slightly behind Whitley just an opinnion not arguing). I just do not understand why they can not play a team in there own county that could give them a pretty good game every year. The last series was one game a piece, and Corbin would not play anymore. I just do not understand that.

And Pineville was a power house in mountain HS football before Bell County existed.

Things change. W'burg has a good program. LC has a good program. WC has a good program. Do we match up well with Corbin? No.

 

Lynn Camp, KC and even Whitley at one time, were attrocious and everyone's whipping boy. If you had a decent program in the 60's/70's/early80's you were going to own these guys. That is historical, too.

 

Right now, W'burg and LC are behind Corbin and WCHS in what we can do against these 2 bigger schools. We will take wins against them, but we are going to have a lot more losses than wins. That is for both LC and W'burg. Just the way it is, now.

No one is taking that away from them, but we should not think that Williamsburg could win 25% of their games against Corbin now, in this day and age. The down cycles would kill any chances of that.
