Well, luckily for them, not too many teams from western side of KY make to state each year. So look at it this way, we're saving you gas money by beating you. I hear gas is going up to 5 or 6 bucks today due to Hurricane.

 

I for one will gladly spend the gas money to travel to Louisville, especially if the outcome is the same as last year. So, don’t worry about my gas budget.

The distance argument is garbage. Last year the most eastern team to make it was Belfry and the most western team was Lone Oak (Paducah).

 

Belfry to Louisville - 233 miles (about 4 hours)

Belfry to BG - 285 miles ( about 5 hours)

 

Paducah to Louisville - 221 miles (about 3 1/2 hours)

Paducah to BG - 152 miles (about 2 1/2 hours)

So it's a little far for Eastern teams and closer for Western Teams. NKY teams would be affected the most. Fort Thomas is 104 miles to Louisville and 216 miles to BG.

I agree. The decision should be based on whether or not the location has the facilities to host a quality tournament, not whether the location has more teams that historically make the finals. It’s not like they are talking about moving the championship to Ashland or Paducah. Louisville, Lexington, and BG are all somewhat centrally located.

They already don't in basketball or baseball. Why does being the largest city with most high schools matter.

The more I think about it the more I think this could be a possibility. When you think about some of the current KHSAA sponsors from BG/Warren Co. such as Leachman Buick/GMC, Houchens Industries and Riherds to name a few and you start to realize if the right people want to make this happen they could…

Technically you are wrong. Louisville is not the largest city in KY. Independence, KY 41051 is geographically. Louisville's actual city limits are not as large as they appear. Either way, I still love Louisville. I would hate it if it moved to BG. Not because of anything against BG and how nice their fans are to us Bluebird fans......I just like the ability to head down to the games each year. I have gone several years with friends and family when HHS was not even in the finals. When it's only 1.5 hrs away, you can do that. When it's 4+ hours away, not worth the trip unless you got a dog in the fight so to speak. I am sure that BG is really nice and I would actually love to go to the Corvetter museum sometime, but not for state football games.

 

You must drive like my grandma. There is no way that trip should take 4+ hours. It is only 209 miles from Covington to Bowling Green. Interstate the whole way at 70 mph you should get there is just under 3. I regularlly travel from Owensboro to Blue Ash, OH in less the 3.5 hours.

 

Also from what I can tell with the on going stadium construction, the new facility at WKU is going to be pretty sweet. It would be a very nice venue for the finals.

I was under the impression that the only reason that this might be a possibility were the scheduling conflicts for Papa Johns during the usual week. If that's not a factor, I think this bid fails, but I'd certainly enjoy it if it moved here. I've never been to the state finals, and being that Warren Central looks miles away from making it, don't know that I ever will if it's in Louisville.

What's irking me is all these NKY and Ville fans that act like they will be so inconvienced by the move. Louisville isn't the only city in KY. I don't now when it became written in stone that UL had to host the state championships? Us in West KY have been making the long commute for years, so you're not getting any sympathy from us! As for the one who said they are saving us money by beating us? Your post lacks of class... I personally feel that a smaller venue like BG would have a lot more to bring to the games. If you're only worried about attending the state games so you can go out and get drunk after the games, well...that sounds like a you problem and there are plenty of places in BG that serve booze as well.

If you ask me, almost nothing. But then again, I don't drink, so that cuts out like 90% of things to do anywhere.

Well, it is a college town, while I'm pretty far removed from the nightlife scene, Im pretty sure it exist. Mamouth Cave, Lost River Cave, etc are all pretty close. Corvette Museum.

 

 

I really don't care one way or the other as I don't annual attend the state finals, but I think it is rediculous to act like Bowling Green couldn't handle the event.
