I think Bears win this one and should easy. I am concerned about a few things from last few weeks that I have seen. The Bears seem to play good starting out and will get a good lead, but allows the team to come back. It's like Bears relax with a lead when they should drive the nails in the coffin as my old coach would say and kick them when their down. They need to come out with more fire and heart. And they need to be in better shape which they were not against LCC. The 2nd half they was not attacking the ball on D. Also they need to control the QB I thought that there were several times he could have got a flag and should have. I thought the coaches needed to jerk him to the side and talk with him. Being that said I think they will get on track and have a good year I hope. Bears win 52-14 this week. GO BEARS !!!!!!!!!:dancingpa

52 points? :scared: That is a lot of points and LC is not your average single A school. They will hit you and play hard, I think HC is the favorite but there is no way they score 52 unless LC decides not to show up for the game.

I was going to reply to that, too, TM.

IF we put the ball in the grass 6 or 8 times, maybe we'll see 50+ against us, but we usually hang on to the ball for a while when we get it. Unless HC can score fast and at will, I do not see 52 points going up. W'burg doesn't put that many on us in a shootout with the offense they run. I got to see the Blackbears O in action and feel comfortable saying 40+ would mean our defense didn't show up, even with the aforementioned fumbles.

This game could be a close one if Lynn Camp can hold their own in the 1st quarter, Bears still have a few things to work out. (1) get in better playing shape (2) cut down on penalties (15) last week, and (3) take better advantage of take-aways (6) last week. I know the coaches will be stressing these things this week but it will be hard to be polished in just one week. The one other area that has coach Larkey concerned is the depth situation with six players going both ways that only gives you around 18 players getting most of the game time, and even with 85+ players quality depth is still a problem. I still the Bears getting that 1st win under their belt. HC 24 LC 16

HC has some athletes, but they do still play some both ways, so they can't be that loaded with talent. It's there, just not spread well across 85+ kids.

When did Lynn Camp become a cake team. Lynn Camp is a very solid team every year. They have a good coaching staff and one of the best backs in the mountains (Wagner). You also have to remember that LC is 1-0 and HC is 0-1. I do look for the Bears to win behind a big game from Green. They are not many teams in the mountains that could beat LC 52-14 this early in the season. Bears 32 LC-20:thumb:

Playing Cumbelrand or Evarts close isn't the samething as playing them combined. Then throw in Cawood and it gets even tougher. Also, I've always thought the Harlan County schools were poorly coached (other than when Tim Saylor was there), they always had more athletes and players than records indicated. Put all those together and throw in a top five coach in Kentucky and I don't see a close game.

 

Lynn Camp has always used games like this to get better for their district and they will. But in this one, Harlan 42 Lynn Camp 14.

Trust me when I tell you this, ... Tom Larkey has much more respect for Coach Mitchell and the Lynn Camp Wildcats than you do. Don't believe me? Just ask him.

This game will be tough for the Bears! I hope our kids don't have this mind set or we will be 0-2. Go Black Bears!

IF, and it's a big IF, HCHS got up big, I think Larkey would call off the dogs is another reason the 52 would not be reached. I really don't think Larkey will have to call off the dogs, nor do I think that the bench will be cleared for mop up. I think this will be a real ball game, folks.

 

(Come to think of it, the last team to really drill us was Clay County with a much more high powered offense than the Bears. HC plays a lot of power football, just like LC.)

This should be a good game of speed versus power. Lynn Camp usually has a good ball team, but I think the Bears will win this one because of their speed.

I think you are going to see some power from HC with Green and Roberts in the game some at the same time:thumb: I think this just makes the Bears a lot better with the addition to Green. This gives them one more power back with Roberts to go along with the big play threat of Gilliam.

If the blowout predictions hold true, and this is only the first year of their (HCHS)existence, Lynn Camp may want to re-think scheduling this team in the future.

Blackbears only going to get better and tougher for the small schools to handle. One sided games for the likes of most "A" and 2A teams.

 

Not to say "dodge" them in the future, but if the Bears reach potential, it's a sure fire way to a Loss for us and just a lot of playing time for the younger Blackbear kids late. It would probably be better for the Bears to remove us after next season and add a few Lexington or Louisville teams to test them more. The way that numbers are looking and the talent pool is apparentlly growing, they'll be out of most of the mountain teams leauge, anyway.

 

 

Harlan County isn't in that league yet. Some of the fans are a little excited because we haven't had this kind of potential for a good team here in a long time. Changing losing attitudes isn't easy though.

 

I think this is a one-year deal with Lynn Camp anyway. I doubt they'll play again anytime soon.

Talked to the coaches tonight. One and done. I would say they had better get in that leauge fast, because I'm going to guess that mountain games are about to get real hard to schedule for them. Central, maybe Western Kentucky and northern Kentucky will be the only teams of that size that will play them, without the promise of a really BIG check.
