Not to make anyone mad, well that was pretty funny before, but I don't understand how LC should be in the same ballpark as HCHS. Maybe HCHS don't put up 52 points because of the coaching, but LC is just not that good from what I have seen. They had a OK team win Q Henson was TB for a couple of years, but they still played 1A. And don't get me wrong I think HCHS shouldn't even play LC, because really HCHS 5A and LC is 1A. I guess my mind set is HCHS should beat them and beat them bad, but like you'll have said this is the first time these kids have played together and also under a new coach. But anyways good luck to both teams and GO BEARS!!!!!!!!!

Lynn Camp went to the state semifinals just a few years ago, If you want to go back before coach Mitchell's time then you may find a time when they were not very good, but in the time that he has been there they could play with just about anyone.

I certainly understand the need for consolidation. But, among other things, you do lose the cross town rival games and have to travel to find teams that are willing to play. I have watched Lynn Camp develop into a very good football program over the years. I think this game will be a little closer than some expect. Both teams should match up very well when both teams have their best 11 on the field. I expect a good game through 4 quarters with HC pulling away late by 2 or 3 touchdowns.

I was trying to remember if we had been in this situation before. We have. We played Pulaski Southwestern during their first year. We were supposed to be their first win and won huge. Larkey didn't coach PSW, so I don't know. I do, however, wonder if lighting could strike twice?

Both teams better strap it on, this one will be tough...

Mitchell had to work very hard to get it turned around there. I'm sure 1968isaac will remember the mid 80s game when Cullivan was bringing freshmen in from the stands to play in the second half.

 

Lynn Camp has defeated numerous schools that were bigger during the last 20 years or so, and I know coach Larkey isn't expecting it to be easy.

I can remember a lot of that stuff when we were a horrible program. We are light years from being there. Most programs should thank God that they were not where we were when Coach Mitchell took over. He has done one of the best jobs ever in the state at developing a program. Most new school programs are not as bad as we were at one time.

I think you are going to see some power from HC with Green and Roberts in the game some at the same time:thumb: I think this just makes the Bears a lot better with the addition to Green. This gives them one more power back with Roberts to go along with the big play threat of Gilliam.

 

I agree! Green could have been the difference in the game against Letcher, in my opinion. Roberts ran the ball well last Friday, but seemed to be a little "gimpy" in the latter part of the game. I would like to see Green as the top back in the offense, with Gilliam coming in as a "change of pace" back.

As far as the schedule is concerned, one has to take into account the travel expenses that will be incurred with traveling outside of the moutains. I wouldn't look forward to HC traveling into WKY, NKY or even Louisville anytime soon. I know this year games are very far away but nothing but beggars could not be choosers when scraping to find games.

As far as 2009 is concerned I believe these teams will be on the schedule.

Middlesboro, may be sticking around also.

From what I've heard (I was but a tot then), Frazier, at times, had the most talent in Class "A," but could never pull it off.

Who's Phillips?

It may be Larry Phillips. He had some good teams at Lincoln County, I think, but he was 1-8 in one year at Evarts.

 

Cumberland had four or five college players on a couple of teams in the 1990s but couldn't get past Pikeville.

 

It depends on how far back you want to go in coaching.

Ed Miracle won four state titles in the 1960s at Lynch. Boyd Fox was a very good coach at Cawood in the 1970s and Cullivan was tremendous in the 80s. Harlan had some good coaches in the 60s , Rick McCrary had a great run in the 80s and Donahue rebuilt the program in the 90s. Hunter was a legend from the 50s to the 70s at Evarts, and Musick had a regional championship team at Evarts in 1990.
