Was Howard one of the first coaches to "throw the ball around" in the mountains? He's still one of the few.

 

He hardly ever threw the ball at Pikeville, he always had 2 or three studs in the backfield rushing out of the wishbone during those championship years. Howard still doesn't throw the ball that much, the offense at LCC I believe is a result of his son. They still run more out of it than they throw it with their QB.

 

Breathitt County and Leslie County were the first ones to toss the old pigskin around a lot in the mountains. Early 90's.

I usually dont know much for certain but you are wrong on this one. Phillips was the head coach at Evarts for one year in the early 80's before he went to Lincoln. I remember he was voted coach of the year in Kentucky a few years later and he didnt even list Evarts on his Vita Sheet(cant say as I blame him because they were 1-9 or 1-10)! Its no knock on him because Evarts was a tough place to coach back then because of the stigma left over from the death penalty that they received!:thumb:
