Summit View over Newport last night 58- 28... Huesman hit 5 three's and had a few 12 foot jumpers... Big game when we return from the break... Highlands comes to Independence...

 

I know a few kids on SV that are looking forward to that game, as am I...should be a good one!!

T&S is right, McNeil was certainly the best player on the floor during the 8th grade game.

 

From what I heard, it was actually Darius Meiman who had 23 points against Twenhofel in the 8th grade game.

Not both, I believe only one is. Why does that matter? Show me a school that has a good middle school team and I bet you'll find some holdbacks.

If you are held back and you are a fantastic player then you clearly have an advantage over kids who are not. Not to mention a year of physical maturity. 6-8 grades are the years where kids can dominate by being held back. After these years everyone catches up and it doesnt matter.

 

Not knocking the kids abilities because I am one to appreciate anyone that can play and plays hard. I was just curious if they were or not because your TOP PLAYERS in the state typically are ones that are held back.

As far as McNeil, it is my understanding he is NOT a grade exception as a 7th grader. But, I agree, some grade exceptions have a huge advantage. Portwood at Scott County has dominated in the 7th grade games that have been played so far. He, of course, also plays 8th grade and does awfully well playing there as well.

Conner seems to be winning a lot of tournaments as of late. I know they won the Highlands and CC tourneys now. Did they win the ST. Henry tournament?

 

Highlands goes on the road with a 3-0 conference record to play Conner tomorrow in a non-conference game. Should be a great battle.

 

St Joe Crescent won St Henry. They beat St Mary by 2 in the final.

 

St Joe beat both Conner and Tichenor at St Henry and at Campbell County.

 

St Joe had to walk away form the Campbell County final to play in the St Henry Final.

 

St Joe's only loss is to St Mary at Highlands, the Cavs forfeited out of Highlands due to a school function.

Highlands was looking forward to playing those guys and were disappointed when they had to bow out of the tourney. If they have any open gym time over Christmas break let me know, I know our coach is looking for some scrimmages.

I stand corrected. Meiman was the best player on the court. I was mainly thinking about the guard play with McNeil but Meiman was the best player.

Summit View has a solid team and I would bet to say that they also have a lot of support from their school too. SV is always in the local tournaments and that really helps you prepapre and have a better season IMO. Newport has talent but never gets involved in the local tournaments and one must wonder why - does Newport not get any support from their upper ranks or what - maybe this is why they have average to below average teams at the high school level.

Sometimes you have to take the bull by the horns Killercats and find these tournaments and let those coaches/administrators know when and where. I know I am always making suggestions for tourneys and extra games for our school team. It doesnt mean they have to enter them but atleast they know that they are out there.
