Mason County was also in their bracket and beat Lexington Cath, Mcnabb(Montgomery) and should have beat Scott, but gave up a little to early Since I was at the game, I know Portwood did not play Saturday in the 8th grade game against Catholic. He did play a little over 2 quarters in the 7th grade game (and all other games during the weekend), but Catholic was winning easily by that point anyway when he tweaked his back. It's been an issue, but with any tweak he sits a little bit. And I was also at the Mason game 7th grade game and Scott County was never threatened in the second half, so I don't understand how Mason gave up early. But, tonight, Portwood did play in the 8th grade game after dominating the 7th grade game. Scott County won by 18 in 7th grade, but Catholic pulled out the victory by 3 in the 8th grade game when Richardson's 3 at the buzzer missed. Scott County -- although it is very, very early -- is not playing near the level they did last year. Of course, last year they also struggled early, they just didn't play the teams the caliber of Catholic and were able to get away with it. Scott County has the talent to bounce back, they just need to find a way to involve more than just Richardson and Portwood, who combined for 38 of the 41 tonight. Last year when they won the state tournament, they had 4 players average in double figures and another one about 7 a game. The big kid from Catholic has really improved. He dominated the paint and their little point guard made 5 3's. So, you have to give all the props to Catholic on this night.

Plural since they are a select group of catholic kids from Lexington?
November 20, 200817 yr Blessed Sacrament swept CCMS Purple tonight. There were not standouts really on either squads for the 7th grade. Geiman hit the first 3 shots for Purple - all 3's - IN THE BEGINNING OF THE 2ND QUARTER!!!! 7th Purple spotted Blessed Sac 17 - 0 in the 1st Quarter. And ended up losing by 18. In the 8th grade game, Franzen and Barth were in double digits for CC Purple. However, Frederick??? for Blessed Sac went 8/8 from the FT line and sealed the deal for Blessed Sac after Purple led pretty much the entire game. It was evident CC Purple was missing "something" er "someone" last night. It's a long season though.
November 20, 200817 yr I know they moved McClendon up but did they move the point guard from last year up as well? He was very quick and when he played under control was tough to stop. If it's the little guard (Palmer) I believe he is still there... I think another kid (#32) was decent, he may have moved up...

November 20, 200817 yr So am I guessing that CC Purple is a little down this year??:confused: Wow, Highlands 7th smoked Blessed Sac by 35 pts. I dont want to compare scores but I am having a hard time understanding how CC Purple 7th lost to Blessed Sac when CC Purple is the "A" team. As far as the 8th grade CC Purple goes, they will need someone to step up and lead them since McGovney is now playing Frosh. Take nothing away from Blessed Sacrament as they have improved and the little guard Nic Frederick (Joe's his pops former Notre Dame player) is a very good shooter he just hasnt grown yet.
November 20, 200817 yr You also need to remember that the Harrison County tourney was very early in the season last year. PC improved throughout the year, but I assure you, they will be worse without Monroe. You my be right time can only tell.

November 21, 200817 yr In tonights Gray/Highlands games here are some notes. 7th Gray 31 Highlands 30 Gray wins with 0 sec on the clock as a player gets fouled and sent to the line. He nails the first free throw to seal it. It was a foul, in most cases I would say eat the whistle but he got fouled 8 feet from the basket. 8th Grade Highlands 45 Gray 39 The Birds are now 3-0 in the conference and getting better each time out. Turner had a whale of a 3rd period scoring 9 of his 13 and cashing in on 2 steals. McCoy had 11 pts and Witte added 9 key points off the bench including 2 big 2nd half 3 pointers. Mays and Brown led Gray with 11 pts a piece. Next up for Highlands is Conner on Monday night out at Conner.
November 21, 200817 yr Holmes beat Twenhofel tonight by 7 I believe. Holmes was flat in the first half but turned on the pressure after half time and Twenhofel didn't handle it at all. Ball handling was terrible, but all correctable.
November 21, 200817 yr Summit View rolled over St. Pius last night 50-19. Swanson lead the way with 12. The starters didn't get much time together because they jumped out big early...maybe a little more that a quarter together. Swanson and Huesman did a nice job defensively and St. Pius' player Ward. The Panthers only dressed 8 and looked a lot different than the team the Jags saw in the St. Henry tourney. I'm going to say this tongue in cheek, but it looks as if Huesman's and Pouncy's shots are coming around.
