November 21, 200817 yr In tonights Gray/Highlands games here are some notes. 7th Gray 31 Highlands 30 Gray wins with 0 sec on the clock as a player gets fouled and sent to the line. He nails the first free throw to seal it. It was a foul, in most cases I would say eat the whistle but he got fouled 8 feet from the basket. 8th Grade Highlands 45 Gray 39 The Birds are now 3-0 in the conference and getting better each time out. Turner had a whale of a 3rd period scoring 9 of his 13 and cashing in on 2 steals. McCoy had 11 pts and Witte added 9 key points off the bench including 2 big 2nd half 3 pointers. Mays and Brown led Gray with 11 pts a piece. Next up for Highlands is Conner on Monday night out at Conner. Not to move away from the great middle school discussion but why does the time left and the distance from the basket have a bearing on whether or not a foul is called or that the ref should "eat" the whistle? I am assuming the mindset that many have of "let the players decide the game", comes into play with the statement? I think if a foul in that situation is not called then the exact opposite takes place, the players didn't decide, the referee did by not calling the game.

I have seen games end this way on petty fouls called that shouldnt have been called. In this case it should have been called because it was a blatant foul and close to the basket, not at halfcourt. You are correct, in that situation last night if he doesnt call it then he looks like a donkey for not allowing the kid who made an attempt to shoot (flung aimlessly from my vantage point but still an attempt) to win the game at the line.

November 21, 200817 yr Barnes, Lucas, Munson and Ayers can handle the rock. Lucas and Munson didn't do a good job at all.. Bad passes, couldn't get it past half court just bad plays in general. Ayers and Bowling looked okay, couldn't get the ball to them. Barnes shot wasn't falling so it was a long shooting night. Racke must be much stronger with the rock. Had it taken away from him all night.

They are considered one of the toughest teams to beat in NKY... They pulled out a tight victory tonight against R.A. Jones (very good team)... If Summit gets good guard play and the big men play their game... They will be tough to beat.

November 23, 200817 yr Author In 6th grade boys action, Wayne County won the Dale Hollow Classic over Clinton County 45-38. It was a 4-6 point game thoughout. I think this clearly establishes Wayne County as the team to beat in the 6th grade. Clinton County defeated Russell County 54-26 in one semifinal and Wayne defeated Monroe County by about 30 in the other semifinal. In the championship game it was all Logan Gradner for Wayne County. Gardner is a 6'1" transfer from Monroe County who is repeating the 6th grade and he can play. He had 31 points and 18 rebounds for Wayne County, Corey Stearns added 10. Clinton County was led by Davis with 19 and Dalton with 10. I felt these were two of the very best 6th grade teams in the state going in and both played well. Clinton had no answer for Gardner who dominated the game and offset Clinton's strong perimiter game. The 6th grade middle school state championship will through Wayne County, they will be tough for anyone to beat. Clinton County, Meece, Elliott County, and Lincoln County will be some of the other teams capable of winning it all.
November 23, 200817 yr At this point in the season. CC doesn't play in any preseason tourneys and seem to get off to slow starts year to year. CC purple is also missing their big guy right now. Schweitzer will be back in a couple of weeks. Purple will get it together and you'll see a much improved team by the middle of Dec.
