Here are the matchups. 11/17 Highlands @ CCMS Gold 11/18 Blessed Sacrament @ Highlands IHM @ Newport 11/19 Blessed Sacrament @ CCMS Purple 11/20 Beechwood @ Woodland Holmes @ Twenhofel Summitview @ St. Pius Turkeyfoot @ Sharp WOW! Holmes @ Twenhofel the first week. That will be an interesting game at the 8th grade level.
November 12, 200817 yr Conner 8th edged St. Joe's Cold Spring (7th grade team) by 5 points. I believe it was 47-42. Conner has a nice deep team but they struggled last night. St. Joes' (7th) has a very nice ballclub who is well coached. They came out and punched Conner in the mouth playing aggressive man-man defense. Nate Verst had 19 pts and 4 three pointers. Two other players I thought were very tough were Jacob Schulte and Ryan Rieger (Jacob's brother???). Schulte is a big athletic kid who played great defense on Conner's big man. Rieger is long and athletic and took it to the hole strong. Conner's star was Cameron Fogle the point guard. The kids goes strong and takes it to the hole. He had several steals out front which turned into easy layups. I think he led Conner with 12. I thought #23 Spencer who came off the bench for Conner was their best player on the post. He is a workhorse and battles. Gray destroyed a undermanned St. Therese squad in the early game. I think the margin of victory was 30+. Tonight's matchups are Highlands 8th vs. St. Joes Crescent Springs (CovCath/St.Henry feeder) at 6pm and St. Mary (Brossart/NCC) vs. St. Thomas/Catherine (NCC) at 7:15. Come on out and watch some exciting basketball early in the month at Highlands Middle School.

November 12, 200817 yr What were the scores? Not sure on the 6th and 7th scores but South's 6th won by about 20 and the 7th by about 14 I think. South 8th grade won 58-24.
November 12, 200817 yr Twenhofel plays Conner twice this regular season.. Is that a flub up or are Boone and Kenton playing each other again? Some Boone and Kenton schools are playing non-conference games this year.
November 14, 200817 yr South Laurel 6,7, and 8th sweeps McCreary Central tonight. The 8th grade final was 55-24.
November 14, 200817 yr In the Highlands Tipoff Tourney the St. Joe's 7th defeated the ST. Therese 8th in the loser's bracket first game. In the nightcap though a very good game in the winners bracket between Gray Middle and Conner. It was a very physical game with Gray jumping out to a 6 point halftime lead only to get outscored in the 3rd period 13 - 4. Conner ended up winning by 5 or 6 I believe but it was a very well played game by both teams. GRay runs a nice offense led by Travis Pavy's 11 points. Nick Brown also played well along with Tyler Morgan. Conner was led by Austin Price a very good guard. He had 14 points and played aggressive defense. Other notable players for Conner who played well were Brady Padgett who made some nice assists and played good defense. Kunkel hit a few FT's at the end that helped seal it. He is a big kid who hasnt gotten on track yet as Gray built a fence around him everytime he touched it. Blake Maines had a very nice offensive night as well, I think he was in double digits. Conner moves on to play St. Thomas/CAtherine. Conner is pretty deep playing 8-9 kids consistently while St. Thomas is not deep at all with a good starting lineup but only 2 kids on the bench I believe. In the losers bracket on Saturday morning Highlands will play Gray at 9am and St Joe's 7th will play St. Mary. Both winners will play and the winner of that will play the loser of the Conner/St. Thomas/Catherine game to see who goes to the finals. So far a very nice tournament and the crowds have been great. November 14, 200817 yr I wasn't overly impressed with Gray. Their big 3 are top notch, but it seemed like their bench was rather week.

I wasnt that impressed with GRay in their first game of the week but they stepped up the intensity in the big rival game with Conner last night. Pavy/Brown and Morgan are their key guys and if you can contain them and keep them off the boards you should win. Their guards looked very passive and unsure at times. They seem to be well coached though. Schedule 9am- Highlands/Gray 10:15 St. Mary/St. Joe's 7th 11:30 Conner/ St. Thomas/Catherine 12:45 Winner of early games. 2pm- Winner of Conner/St. Thomas vs. Winner of 12:45 game. 3:30 Finals

November 16, 200817 yr Congrats to Conner Colts 8th grade team and Coach Woody Robinson for winning the Highlands Tipoff tourney today. This tournament featured some really good teams with some great competition. Here are the results of todays games and the top scorers for both teams. I put the player's aau team next to their name just to show you the caliber of talent that was out on the court this week. Gray 49 - Pavey (wolfpack aau) 16, Mays (wolfpack aau)11 Highlands 42- Witte (Warriors aau) 10 St. Mary 40 - Saunders (knicks aau) 16 ST. Joe's 28 - Verst (wolfpack 13U aau) 16 ST. Cath/Thomas 29 - Bueter (Warriors aau) 8, Devoto (Warriors aau) 8 Conner 31 -Maines (Outlaws aau ?) 15 This game was a barn burner with Conner winning on a last second stickback by Brady Padgett. Gray 39 - Mays (Wolfpack aau) 18 ST. Mary 32- Saunders (knicks aau) 8 This game proved to be bittersweet for Gray as they lost their best player in Travis Pavy to a severe ankle sprain. Pavy at that point was having a great tournament. Best wishes to him and hope he gets back on the court soon. Back and forth game that came down to Conner with the ball and 22 sec. They called a timeout and set up a play to get the ball to Jared Kunkel in the post and he hit a 5 foot turnaround on the block. St. Cath/Thomas pushed the ball up and got a good look but Michael Beuter's 3pt attempt missed and as both teams scrambled for the loose ball time expired. My heart goes out to the boys from St. Cath/Thomas as they suffered two losses today by 2pts each. With 8 kids on their roster coach Gary Devoto and Bob Heil get the most out of those kids. Summary- Highlands the host team needs more games and are not near where they should be but today they actually played well in the loss. St. Mary's is a very aggressive team who play good defense they just lack shooters. Saunders(Knicks AAU) is a nice player and has nice size. Nate Verst is a very good player for the St. Joe's 7th grade team. Conner has a very well coached team with 5-6 really good players. Their starting five is solid and they bring in an athletic kid named Spencer off the bench. Austin Price for Conner had a nice tournament at the guard spot. Nate Grosser the 6'1 Center for St. Cath/Thomas ruled the boards and scored well. Brennan Devoto and Michael Beuter scored alot and dished out several nice assists for St. Cath/Thomas. Drew Mays had a phenomenal tournament for Gray as he was a scoring machine at times and very effective shooting the 3 and taking the dribble drive. Travis Pavy IMO was the best player in the tournament and its ashame he went down with an injury. He is a tall athletic kid who can handle the ball and has great 1-1 moves.
