Lincoln 6th is very talented. Lincoln 7th is very good also. I don't know as much about Lincoln 8th but i know Shelton and Gerhing and they both can flat play. Shelton is about 6'1" now. The oldest Woods is an excellent shooter and they are very well coached. Please don't take this as an insult because top to bottom Lincoln has as good a program as there is in rural Kentucky, I just think Wayne will pose alot of matchup problems for anyone. Wayne beat Meece last year with Shelton if I'm not mistaken and Meece defeated Lincoln. I know alot of the kids both places and there will be 3 great games, good luck! I hope the kids at Lincoln prove me wrong, they are capable.

 

As far as matchups, it may be pretty even at the 8th grade level. Lincoln has two big men - Luster at about 6'1 1/2 and Hill at about 6'2 1/2. We also have an EXCELLENT guard in Cummins, along with a Burchfield and Sheets. Burchfield and Hill were all tournament team at the state tourney last year and I know some boys played AAU ball this summer to improve their skill level.

 

Meece and Lincoln played three times last year, and Meece won two of those, but Lincoln was missing one of their starters in one of those games. We are looking forward to hopefully another great season and I can't think of a better way to start it than playing Wayne in game 1. Go Eagles!

I believe most of the NKY middle school AD's know nothing about it.

I know Highlands and Sharp participated last year. And it was Sharp's 1st year in participating.

 

Look for Campbell County to be represented at the KBA middle school tourney this year.

Here is a question for a few of you out there. Since a lot of this year's 8th graders at Russell, PC, Campbell Co, Scott Co, Somerset, etc are playing up with Frosh and JV teams will they be brought back down for the KBA Middle School Tourney?

As of right now the head coach at Somerset said Taylor will not be playing any middle school basketball including the KBA state tournament.

Kids need to play their middle school years, if they play both Fresh/8th, they play both...but if they play Fresh all year and then join the team for the state that is not right for the kids that have been playing all year long. Could really kill team chemistry!

BTW, I look for Mayfield Middle to be very strong. Even stronger than last year when they were beaten by Lincoln late in the tourney. I wouldn't want to draw them early. They added a kid if I'm not mistaken who will help who was ineligible due to grades last season. They will be solid. Don't count them out of this season's 8th gr. state tournament.:thumb:

That is a good thing... At Summit and most teams that I've been around, playing time is not a topic of discussion... Work hard and they use or lose ya...

Actually both Gray Middle School (Ryle) and Jones Middle School (Boone/Ryle) have both been there the last 2 years. Ockerman Middle (Boone) was there 3 years ago and I know Highlands has been there. Also, I believe there was at least one private middle school that went last year from NKY (maybe St. Joes?) Gray has played well at the State tournament the last 2 or 3 years and 2 years ago Jones Middle played well winning their first two games and getting knocked out by Wayne County by like 15 points who won the whole tournament.

 

Probably the reason why most teams from NKY do not go to the tournament is money. I know the tournament is free, but we still have to raise the money for the hotel rooms/transportation/food for the weekend, which can be $1000-2000. Probably the best Jones team over the last 3 years didn't get to go because of money but would probably had a great showing. Highlands won the state tounament that year and Jones Middle beat Highlands at another tournament up north!

I love it, lets get this party started SouthernKYhoops. I think you are pretty much right on the mark with the teams you mentioned. Scott Co was unbelievable last season as 7th graders. Im sure Lincoln, Wayne, Somerset, Knox, Christian and Russell will all be strong along with the Louisville and Lexington schools. Scott Co I would assume though might move Richardson up to play Frosh ball or JV as he is that good.

 

Up in NKY, I would say that the Holmes 8th graders will be very tough. Campbell Co led by McGovney team will be good and if the Highlands boys grow and get some fire they will form a nice team. Already noticing some of the boys shooting up a little plus they will be in a better situation as far as coaching goes with Mike Vories. Pendleton Co will probably slack off due to Monroe moving up and playing JV next year. They also lost their beef in the middle in Smith who transferred to Highlands.

 

Couldn't have made a dumber comment concerning Pendleton, losing Monroe will certainly hurt them but from what I hear they still have many other quality players and an excellent coach. All PC needs to do is find 3 players that will put up 6 to 14 points a game as an individual and their the same team as last year if not better.:devil::devil::devil:

If you are trying to say that Mason Monroe is easily replaced, I am sorry to tell you that you are very mistaken. Mason is one of the best in the class of 2013 and it will be great to see him playing JV ball this year.
