We didn't see them last year but as 6th graders they had a good team.

 

The only kid I remember was Kunkel but he wasnt even their best player. Kunkel played with the Nets in AAU ball for a few years in the past.

I can't put a name to the face.. Do any of them play with the Real Deal in the summer? I'm pretty sure they're coached by a Conner guy.

I watched PC a couple of times last year and if you would have taken Monroe off the team, they would have been awful. He did everything for them. They will still have Strong's presence on the inside, but that is about it .... unless they had some kids move to town that didn't play last year.

 

That comment is like saying if the Lakers lost Kobe or the Cavaliers lost Lebron, they would be better. Monroe is the Kobe or Lebron of Pendleton County middle school. And unfortunately for PC, the supporting cast isn't much.

 

I will agree with the comment with Monroe and Kobe but, there was no presence of a coach like Phil Jackson, not that any middle school coach will be or should be like Phil. But 4th quater 2 point game it's always nice to have set plays and from what I saw at Harrison Co. tournament against Campbell I didn't see that what so ever. I also here they have a new coach so maybe they have an offense now who know's?

The NKMSBL schedule has been released to coaches and AD's. The postseason tournament starts on the Saturday of the 8th grade state tournament at the KBA.

Another of Conner's stronger players was a kid by the name of Maines. He played for the Blaze last year in AAU. They had another decent guard that was a streaky shooter, but his name slips me.

I know of Maines but I was under the impression he was at Gray Middle. I dont remember him being on Conner's team last year. I also remember the streaky shooter and he was on the night they played the Birds.

Maines is and has been at Conner. Q may be thinking of Mayes - who is and has been at Gray.

Clinton County played Conner in the round of 8 in last year's 6th grade middle school state tournament( Clinton County 49 conner 28). They had a very solid team and most of their players were very fundamentally sound and they were well coached. I understand that Gray defeated Conner last season in a close game.

You also need to remember that the Harrison County tourney was very early in the season last year. PC improved throughout the year, but I assure you, they will be worse without Monroe.

We were talking about last year's 7th grade Conner team but thanks for the summary. Sounds like their current 7th grade class will compliment the current 8th graders as they move up the ranks.

 

I just remember Conner have some big physical kids.

FYI I posted this in KYMSFA Thread as well...On a side note in December 09 the KABC is planning a Middle School Basketball Sweet 16 with regional tournaments and all, there will be regional hosts and a Sweet 16 at Frankfort Civic Center. This is as close to it gets as "real"....unfortunatley some schools/conferences (fayette) will not allow them to participate as they do not start basketball until Jan.......there will always be exceptions!

Why are they doing this in December? Why not late January or February? Most teams will just be getting started in December.

Middle school football had a state tournament on Nov.1 to finish off the year. I went to it and it was a great environment and a lot of fun for the kids. You had teams who had completed an undefeated regular season playing against other similar teams. Playing the basketball state tournament in December instead of February would be like playing the football state tournament in September. It wouldn't be quite the same.

I agree, kind of hard to play a state championship the first month of your season.......
