My sons team is playing out there and I watched some of this game..Summit View looked pretty tough..Are they one of the top teams in NKY?? They sure looked like it..

 

They are very good when everyone is clicking. They are essentially the Bulls (AAU) team and the Highlands kids, well 6 of them playing for the Warriors got a big win against them last week. It should be a very good matchup when Highlands travels out to play them. They have a really good spot up shooter in Huesman, Swanson is exceptionally quick to the basket but can get out of control at times. Sampson is the stud but sometimes he plays like he knows it and can lose it. I think there are a couple other kids who play pretty decently in Jackson and Pouncy. That sounds like their starting 5. Playing them out there wont be easy that is for sure.

 

Congrats to them on the big win over Holmes. Although Highlands beat Holmes (two Rivers) by 20 last season by breaking their press, hitting big open looks and defending them with zone. They dont have any outside shooters and if you take away the penetration they struggle. I havent seen them this season though, that may all be different.

Just wanted to add an update on the Fleming Co. 7th grade boys (Simons Middle School). They are currently 12-0, although the schedule overall has been fairly weak. We are playing teams around our area and in our conference but they just haven't played the amount of ball and the quality of competition that Fleming's boys have. That's not a knock on the teams we have played so far it's just that they seem unprepared for our pressure defense, press, and the up and down the floor game that Fleming brings. Several of Fleming's players have played AAU and traveling ball together since 2nd grade and usually played up or at least played the top comptetition in our age group. We did win the Glenn Toyota / Elks Shootout Tourny over the weekend in Frankfort. Fleming Co. defeated Shelby West in the championship game. They were the best competition we have faced all year and I was just curious if anyone from that area knows how Shelby West stacks up in that area? They seemed like a solid ball club and had a pretty smooth big man. We do play Mason Co. monday night and this should be a very good ballgame. This age group (now 7th grade) has routinely beaten Mason Co. over the years but Mason has improved and they have picked up Lewis Co's best 2 7th grade ballers. This should even things up and make for a barnburner.

Glad to hear the boys are playing well, Clinton's 7th is undefeated as well. Wayne Co. should be the only test we have before we get to Lexington. How many of the Bobcats AAU team play for Fleming Middle? I was under the impression that Fleming and Clinton were the only 2 AAU/school teams that played at our level in AAU with same school players and had any success. We sure have had some barnburners in the past. Love to watch the Fleming County kids play, they have so much heart!

All of the Bobcats AAU team are now playing for the middle school. We have picked up a few new players to fill out the middle school roster, but the main players are the same boys you have seen for several years. You are right we have had some good ones. Heck, we even traveled all the way to Florida just to play you guys, lol. I have watched your team improve over the years and I feel like you have done it the right way. I know you took us down last year (can't remember if it was state AAU or 6th grade state), and though I don't enjoy losing I did feel pretty good for your boys and the way they played. We have always been a school team as well and playing the better competition seems to be paying off. Things are changing a bit as we are more under the direction of the HS, but I'm sure we will be playing some AAU after the middle school season, so maybe we'll meet up again.

Tell all of the kids I said good luck and keep working hard. Tell Pressley hey! I think our programs mirror each other so much, I hope it works out for all of the kids on both teams. They sure have worked hard.

Summit View lost to Conner (again) in the finals of the Campbell Co. tourney. Seems Conner's length has given Summit fits. Hats off to the boys from Conner...they play extremely hard and should have turned themselves into a force in the Boone league.

Conner seems to be winning a lot of tournaments as of late. I know they won the Highlands and CC tourneys now. Did they win the ST. Henry tournament?

 

Highlands goes on the road with a 3-0 conference record to play Conner tomorrow in a non-conference game. Should be a great battle.

They have a couple of big guys, they are quick. They beat Mason in the last I think it was 20 some seconds by 1 point. Mason should have actually won this game, they were ahead by 16 at one time (I think that's how much it was) it was neck -n- neck for the most part, lot of excitement

Conner 7th beat Highlands pretty good tonight, by 20 I think. They have a nice sized kid who can do it all and looks like a freshman.

 

In the 8th grade game it was neck and neck every period except the 2nd when Highlands subbed all the way down to the 12th man and Conner went up 10 at the half. A very good 3rd period press brought them back to within 4. They eventually cut the lead to 2 I think but Conner pulled away at the end on some fast break baskets. I believe the final was 40 to 31.

 

Conner has a nice ballclub, they wont defense you to death but offensively they pass very well and they play as a team. In fact, they might be the best passing 8th grade team I have seen in a long time. Their floor spacing is very good as well. Jared Kunkel had a great first half for Conner. He must have had 10 of their 21 in the first half. I'd say he hit 4 or 5 soft one handed shots from within 4 feet of the basket.

 

I think if the Birds would have gone with a strict 8 man rotation out there it may have been a different outcome. One other note, the officials out there are not good at all. They did not call one over the back foul and probably 20 were committed. They missed a ton of calls and made some questionable ones that got a lot of "read the rulebook" cackles from even the home crowd. If you go out to Conner just beware because it will be equally bad on both ends of the floor. Its a male/female team.

Fleming Co's 7th grade boys pretty much dismantled Mason Co. 7th this evening. I had predicted a barnburner, but not on this night. Both teams started kind of slow but Fleming eventually kicked it in. The halftime score was 32-7. The only negative for Fleming was the fact that they didn't close the game out real strong. The final margin was 15 points. I thought Mason's new pickups would close the gap, but Fleming plays really good team ball.

Congrats to the Fleming Co boys, they are really playing well. I remember those boys taking their lumps against some older squads a couple years back.

Clinton 8th wins big tonight over Pickett County Tennessee scoring 47 points in the 2nd half to win by 30+. The game was tied at the half. Clinton now 16-0. Asher had another outstanding game. He lokked good in the JV scrimage friday night as well.
