Given the scenario I layed out (which is extreme and probably won't happen)

 

Has UL ever play a 90K seat stadium designed for noise that is completely partisan (Orange Bowl would count but UL had the majority of fans) with the national spotlight solely on that game?

 

The scenario is a stretch, but the gist is fair.

Let me rewind everything for just a bit. In my original thread I used the terms "it's my feeling..." and "in all likelihood", meaning I know it is subjective and it is based on my assumptions.

 

Certainly a 90 thousand filled stadium is for a game vs an undefeated would be very loud and intimidating. However, I don't expect you to be undefeated and when Florida's home schedule includes Miami, LSU, and the Spurrier led South Carolina, I highly doubt UK is the big ticket on the schedule.

 

Also the crowd acts different from a team they really want to beat and a team they hate. Louisville fans are especially hateful of UK after last season.

You can have an extremely hostile crowd in a stadium that isn't 90,000 people....I would argue that the Gator Bowl, the Orange Bowl, and the games againts Miami and WVU in '06 could compare to this mythical battle of unbeatens in the Swamp.

What you consider hostile is what I would consider "Electric".. when I think hostile I am thinking negatively effecting a team.

If you all wanted to see a wild crowd you should have gone to the USF/ WVU last year in Tampa!

More I think about the QB situation at UK the more I believe the Cards have a better shot at winning.

According to ESPN, he is 4-6 for 34 yards and a pick in two games lifetime.

It has never really been in doubt for me. Overall UL should have more expereinced talent on the field... especially at the most important position in college football, QB.

 

The biggest X factor in the game will be, has UL's defense improved enough to negate a potential decent running game and will UL respond well to Kragthorpe. Looking at this game objectively on paper, UL should win this game. I know you can reconfigure numbers, see how many snaps player A has taken, or how many catches player B has taken, etc. I personally feel both teams are around the same level, UL just has a few more playmakers.

Who does look at UK as a big game in the SEC? I do agree that UK will play in much more hostile environments in the SEC, but those places won't want to beat UK as bad as UL does.

 

The fact that UK will have more fans at this game than any of those negates that IMO.

We disagree drastically on what I bolded. I am fairly certain any UK fan will say the exact same thing you did except replacing the "UL" for "UK"...

 

This game is a push right now IMO, and it will come down to who is better prepared over the next few weeks.

Frankly in what I have seen of your posts regarding UL and the SEC (or Big 10 for that matter) if someone posted that UL had "the best parking lot on the southside of its campus in the country" you would likely find something negative or contrary to say about it.

I think UK lost a big edge when Pulley was let go. I think he would have been very effective moving the ball against UL. Now the pressure is on Hartline to come through and he is untested as well as the WR's. This game will be very close but I still give a slight edge to the Cats based upon the strenght of both lines. The kicking game is probably a wash. Lots of questions going into this game and only time will tell us the answers.Should be a barn burner.Cats by a field goal.

I like UK primarily because I think UofL's defense is weak. Particularly, even if the UK running game is only "fairly decent" those linebackers will still have to be in the right position to make plays AND be physically able to make them.

 

Dixon, Locke and Smith will gash the UofL defense for big gainers and pick up yardage in chunks.

 

On the flip side, unless UK just gets GREAT pressure on Cantwell (which I don't think will happen) he will make plays. So, I actually think both teams will move the ball.

As for the UofL crowd. If the Cards get up early, could spell bad news for the fresh meat QB Hartline. On the flip side, if UK somehow gets up early, the Cards fans might say "oh no" and that negative energy will resinate.

 

I don't like it as game one for that reason. Both Cards and Cats fans will feel like the whole year is riding on that game to be played Sunday 8/31
