As for the UofL crowd. If the Cards get up early, could spell bad news for the fresh meat QB Hartline. On the flip side, if UK somehow gets up early, the Cards fans might say "oh no" and that negative energy will resinate.

I don't like it as game one for that reason. Both Cards and Cats fans will feel like the whole year is riding on that game to be played Sunday 8/31

Excellent post, I feel 100% the same as you.

I think UK lost a big edge when Pulley was let go. I think he would have been very effective moving the ball against UL. Now the pressure is on Hartline to come through and he is untested as well as the WR's. This game will be very close but I still give a slight edge to the Cats based upon the strenght of both lines. The kicking game is probably a wash. Lots of questions going into this game and only time will tell us the answers.Should be a barn burner.Cats by a field goal.

Why? Pulley was never terribly impressive and the last really "mobile" QB UK had was the world beating Shane Boyd.

I always felt that UK would be better served with moroe of a drop-back passer because let's face it good running QBs who can pass and run effectively are not terribly common in College. A few exist but they are not the norm.

HE may not be a world beater but he is in the NFL isn't he?:lol::lol:

The team that has the most rushing yards in this game almost always wins the game. UK out rushed UL last year 185 to 101 and won. This year UK returns more on the OL(IMO) and I believe a better stable of backs(IMO), throw in the ability of Pulley to run as well as keep the the defense honest with passing would have kept UL off balance (IMO). That's why I think it is a big loss for UK. Hartline and the WR-TE's now have to step up to open up the running game. I still think UK will rush for more yards and wins but I also think it now becomes a very close game.

Is he still? I was unaware that he had managed to stay on any rosters, is he with the Titans?

I still don't see Pulley having the kind of throwing ability to keep the defense honest.

As it is I still think this game going into it is a wash, with or without Pulley. I used to think the way you do on the experience returning until I looked a little further into it and noticed that both teams have similar numbers of players returning. UL just doesn't have much depth.

You did not see Pulley in practice or the spring game or you would not say he can't throw because he can throw pretty well. Remember he beat Woodson out a couple of years ago in the spring game which I attended, and he looked great throwing the ball both deep and short. He is a very special talent that would have given UL or anyone else trouble stopping him.

^ Nah....Curtis is very talented but he would've been a much bigger factor as a WR in this game.

I think he is playing with the Texans, but I am not sure on that.

He is currently the 3rd QB for the Texans.

He is currently the 3rd QB for the Texans.

Yes I just checked that.He was 4 for 5 passing for 25 yds and 5 rushes for 28 yds in their first game.:thumb:

Momma wants to add this....She is a Card fan but thinks the Cats will have trouble moving the ball and "UL is better". Yeah, I still hear about that 1990 bowl game.

UK

1. Depth- UL lost alot of players who were going to be expected to contirbute, not to mention the Senior's who graduated. They are still talented, but especially for the first game depth/experience will be an issue.

2. Trenches- Any football purist will tell you every game is won and lost in the trenches, UK appears to have a significant advantage on both sides of the ball.

3. Linebacker- Uk returns three players with a ton of gametime experience and history of making big plas, UL not so much.

I think both offenses will struggle, I think it will be tight, and I think Ul will come out fired up and jump on UK early, but UK utilizes the depth and earns a victory in the end.

UK 27

UL 23

Unfortunatley we will never know!

^ That does suck...I feel for his family.
