Okay we are a 30 days away from the annual UK-UL game. I know I am excited about this game. So I thought I would get the ball rolling. Lets hear why your team will win.

I think UL pulls off the win this season for 2 reasons.

1. QB- Hunter has played in big games and is a true leader of this team. He can move in the pocket to help avoid sacks.

2. They are at home. I think playing at home when you are young really helps you stay focused.

1. Depth- UL lost alot of players who were going to be expected to contirbute, not to mention the Senior's who graduated. They are still talented, but especially for the first game depth/experience will be an issue.

2. Trenches- Any football purist will tell you every game is won and lost in the trenches, UK appears to have a significant advantage on both sides of the ball.

3. Linebacker- Uk returns three players with a ton of gametime experience and history of making big plas, UL not so much.

I think both offenses will struggle, I think it will be tight, and I think Ul will come out fired up and jump on UK early, but UK utilizes the depth and earns a victory in the end.

UK in a GREAT game.

QB - Advantage UL. Cantwell has proven he can lead the Cards. Hartline is capable, but doesn't have the game experience.

RB - Slight advantage UK. UK has a host of solid backs who can help take some of the pressure off of Hartline. UK must control the game on the ground to keep Cantwell from getting into a rhythm.

WR - Advantage UL. Both lost valuable WR's, but UL will have an advantage here. I think if this game becomes a shootout, the Cats are in trouble.

OL vs DL - Advantage UK. A lot of experience back will be a huge help to the Cats to try and control the ground game.

LB / DB - Advantage UK. A ton of experience back will help them pull this one out.

Bottom line: A low scoring game favors UK. A shootout favors UL. I see UL going for 2 and the win and coming up short at the end of regulation.

At this point before practice starts I don't have the confidence to make a solid prediction. Here is what I like about Louisville.

Jeff Brohm- He will return UofL to a balanced offense we had under Petrino, I expect Louisville to return to dominating defenses.

Ron English- Okay at this point I'm only going on hope, but he can't do worse than last year.

Cantwell- Big Strong armed QB. Not as careful as Brohm was or as good at reading defenses, but Cantwell had a superior arm. He can and will launch it down field. He has waited his time and I expect that by the end of the season he will be one Louisville's most beloved players.

Doug Beaumont- This is kid is a player, I can't wait to see him arrive on the college scene. He is undersized but can play in the mold of Harry Douglas and Arnold Jackson.

Bilal Powell- Looked outstanding in his brief appearances late in the season, he will be a legitimate feature back.

The return of Lattarius Thomas and the second season for Turenne- Thomas started for our Orange Bowl team and was out all last season due to injury, both his return and a year of D-1 experiance for Turenne should shore up our secondary.

Brock Bolen- Wasn't given much of a chance in last season's offense, this season I expect him to be the X-factor in the running game. He will the change in pace bruiser to complement Powell

Offensive line- Returns three starters from a decent line last season. C Eric Wood is a major leader of the team., he along with Sr George Bussey have started since they were freshmen. Should be one of the stronger units of the team.

Josh Chichester- Finally we will get to see the 6-8 redshirt Freshman WR. Could even be an improvement over the disappointing season Urrutia had.

I'm sorry Ram... but if I have to jump on a UK fan for talking about how Uk is better in special teams on another thread I have to note that NO UL fan in their right mind will assume their secondary is shored up until Tuerenne shows marked improvement. He may have been the worst DB I saw playing D-1 football last season.

Otherwise solid post.

I like UK. Defense and the running game can win you a few tough road games. I think UK has the advantage in both of these areas.

I expect major improvement for Turenne. Many players show remarkable improvement with a season behind them. He is a physical specimen, and didn't get 5 stars without any talent. Also the corner back position is highly defendant of other players for help. If the D-Line provides no pressure or the safeties don't do there job it can make the corners look bad. I think this happened to Turenne a lot last season. He was clearly a disappointment in regards to expectations, but I don't agree that he was so bad as you feel.

Before I read the rest, I wanted to coat tail off of what you said. With some changes.

- Hunter has big game experience, both home, away, and in a bowl.

- Whoever starts for UK (most likely Hartline) has never taken a snap in a game like this. Hartline at all, I think....

- U of L is at home

I do think the score will be higher, mainly due to defensive fatigue, and missed assignments.

U of L 34 - 28 UK

As far as Woodney goes, I don't look at him to be much different than Nate Harris. Nate's first season they tried to get him to do too much. Not calling Nate dumb, just a slow learner in a very complicated defense. Well, last season, they were calling on Woodney to call out coverages, and make a lot of reads in the zone. That's not his bag. He is a lightning quick DB that needs to play bump coverage. I look for that to happen this season. Last year, with all of his "thinking", he looked, very, very slow.

First of all, I will be very surprised if either team wins by more than a touchdown. That said, I like UL at home. Cantwell has proven that he can get the job done on several occasions, while UK doesn't have QB with significant game experience. The defense has to be at least a little bit better, they couldn't have gotten any worse. And with the question marks UK has on the offensive side of the ball, I'm not sure they'll be able to manufacture a significant amount of points, even on UL's defense.

I look for the score to be in the low to mid 20's.

That's a very good point. I still think lower score, but that could play a major factor in the game. A missed assignment sure did make a huge difference last year.

In 90% of the games in this series the team that has the most rushing yards wins the game. UK takes control of the game in the second half running and wears down the thin, small UL defense. UK defense does the same thing to the UL offense with only 2 returning starters on the OL for the Cards Hunter runs for his life and does not do much damage, the UK D stops the run.In the end UK controls both lines, has more depth and wins the game. Both QB's are effective for the Cats.

Alright, here we go.

First of all IMO UK will win this game by a touchdown or so. UL's inexpierienced offense will struggle with UK's more expirienced DB's and DL.

1. Hunter has thrown 84 passes in the past two years. As for big games he was in on a thrashing of Murray State (73-10), and being stopmed by USF (55-17). So I don't know where all this expirience is coming from. And he also had 0 TD's last year with one pick.

2. It will be tough for Hartline/Pulley to play on the road for the first game but, I see the D saving him. Also, with the help of Derrick Locke, and Dicky Lyons, Jr. I think the Cats will be alright.
