The Reds could make their move. It appears to this casual observer that they've mailed the season in.

Sureshot on the betting lines from here on out if you like to play the MLB games. Homer Bailey is a batting practice pitcher. His pitches all look like they have no movement and are as fat as a softball. I hope he gets some better pitching ability as he gets more experience but just raring back and throwing strikes isnt going to get it.

The long season's ebb and flow allows for some brief moments of hope...but when the talent of the Reds is just reduced to a puddle of goo vs. the horrible Nationals, the sad, sad story of the 2008 Cincinnati Reds comes to the forefront. Incidentally, did anybody hear Paul Daugherty make reference the other night on his radio show that the reason Dusty Baker insisted on batting Junior third was that "he (Baker) just didn't want to fool with it (not batting Griffey third)" Huh? If that's so, hey, sorry to inconvenience you, Dusty. If that's so, the Dusty Baker hire is a farce.

Because they are. They've got more talent than they've had in the past 5 or 6 years. Ahh but you said that the pitching was improved. Since that home series with the Nationals the pitching has went 8-13 with an even 5.00 ERA. Their team ERA after the home series against the Nats stood at 4.44 so it has been a full half run per game worse.

So you don't think this pitching staff has improved over the staff's of previous years?
August 3, 200818 yr So you don't think this pitching staff has improved over the staff's of previous years? Do you mean potentially or on the field? There's some potential for the first time in several years but results have been about the same. The team's ERA for the last 3 seasons: 2006 4.51, 2007 4.94, 2008 4.55. Their team pitching rank (NL only): 2006 15th, 2007 12th, 2008 12th. They've got some guys that have potential but right now it is just more of the same.
August 3, 200818 yr No one gonna bash Cueto like you do Bailey? Pretty ruff 1st for him today. The Reds have not went 0 for the season in Cueto's starts. He has also managed to keep his ERA below 7.50 and has only allowed a .261 Average to his opponents compared to Bailey's .381. Cueto's main problem has been the long ball. The biggest difference is that in most starts Cueto has at least been competative--Bailey has looked like a batting practice pitcher.
