August 3, 200818 yr The Reds have not went 0 for the season in Cueto's starts. He has also managed to keep his ERA below 7.50 and has only allowed a .261 Average to his opponents compared to Bailey's .381. Cueto's main problem has been the long ball. The biggest difference is that in most starts Cueto has at least been competative--Bailey has looked like a batting practice pitcher. You are right on Joe.
August 3, 200818 yr ^ Bailey has had some good starts, if only 2 they were good starts. One was good one was decent. So if he makes 35 starts in a season and gives the Reds a chance to win in 10 of them (which is his percentage) then we should be happy with his progress? Look I know that you have a huge man-crush on Homer but expectations put on him (remember all those boastful quotes you put up all offseason?) compared to his on field performance have soured the fans. Especially given his bad attitude.
August 3, 200818 yr Do you mean potentially or on the field? There's some potential for the first time in several years but results have been about the same. The team's ERA for the last 3 seasons: 2006 4.51, 2007 4.94, 2008 4.55. Their team pitching rank (NL only): 2006 15th, 2007 12th, 2008 12th. They've got some guys that have potential but right now it is just more of the same. I was speaking of both potential and performance. I don't think you can just look at the numbers as a term of performance. In past years a 4.5 ERA by the pitching staff would have been good enough to be above .500. This year the offense has struggled more often than not. It seems when the offense is hot, the pitching isn't. They just can't put it together.

The 4.51 ERA is ranked 12th out of 16 teams. That's just not that impressive no matter how you slice it. At least this season they do have some young pitchers with the potential to get better--something they haven't had for several years.
August 3, 200818 yr Whats the score? How'd the Nats get 4 in the 1st? 4-1...Votto just hit a solo home run. - L. Milledge homered to deep left - P. Orr singled to left, A. Kearns scored, K. Casto to second, K. Casto scored, P. Orr to third on left fielder A. Dunn's fielding error - W. Nieves singled to right, P. Orr scored

I did hear a snippet on the radio, BP got picked off 2nd?
August 3, 200818 yr Ew! How many were earned runs? Votto seems to be getting it together. I did hear a snippet on the radio, BP got picked off 2nd? Phillips did get picked off. It was first and second with one out. Kind of ruined anything coming out of that. I agree on Votto, he's been pretty solid all year. He'll be a good player for years to come. 3 of the 4 were earned runs in the first.

These guys just mailing it in now?

I didn't watch much of yesterdays game, but there's not a lot of bright spots on display right now. Corey Patterson is 2 for his last 3. He's up right now with guys on first and second, maybe he'll get a hit.....maybe not. 4-1 after 5 1/2

August 3, 200818 yr Cueto has pitched very well after the first inning. I think his day is done since he's due up second. 4-1 after 6
August 3, 200818 yr Adam Dunn didn't help that first inning either. The team has mentally mailed it in, look at all the errors this weekend.
