And the difference in being in 4th and in last is a whopping 2 games so Dunn is essentially worth 2 games in the standings for.......how many million is it again? I'm not against Dunn being on the team and I'm not against resigning him. However, he is not suited to hit 3rd, 4th or really even 5th for a winning team as long as he hits this career average of .222 with runners in scoring position. He needs to be a contributor to the offense and not a focal point of it if the Reds are going to succeed.

I'm not saying he's great. I'm saying he accounts for a lot of runs. If he is gone those runs need to be made up somewhere. Norris Hopper and Ryan Freel aren't going to get it done. Also, Griffey has to be replaced.

 

Do you have to score runs to win games or can you win w/o scoring? I forget. People who do this stuff for a living seem to think that the more runs you score compared to how many you give up directly leads to how many wins you get per season. So I feel pretty confident that if they lead the league in runs scored and have a team that is in the bottom 10 in giving them up that they'll win more games.

Answer this question. In this ballpark is there anyway a Reds team with Adam Dunn as the focal point is going to be a Championship caliber club? Do you really think that is going to happen. He's a likeable guy and he can be fun to watch when he's on a tear but if you are depending on him to hit 3rd, 4th or 5th and be your primary RBI man the current 13 year playoff drought will stretch out a lot longer. I never said the Reds shouldn't try to keep him, all this discussion was brought about by talk of him needing to hit 3rd or 4th.

No he shouldn't. If the past 3 years are any indication, the highest paid position player on the Reds should be Phillips.

I'm all for dropping Griffey in the lineup but Dunn is not the answer. Griffey has hit 600 he's really no longer needed.

Very staticy but I heard Marty call Harang the biggest disappointment on the team this year. Hard to argue that one if we're talking about players.

:thumb: I agree (and hopefully the arm is not further damaged), imo his arm hasn't been the same since that "extra inning" out of turn 5 inning (I think) appearance. I realize that plenty of people disagree and that subject is a dead horse as well but I have said that since that game.
