The problem with Lexington lies in their Central Office and the Principals...look who they hire for big name jobs like Dunbar...some guy who fits their teaching requirment. Lexington teams look the part, but when the ball's snapped, it's a whole different story. It is a shame.

However with as many great performances that Manual has had, they have also had a few head scratchers and poor performances that make it difficult to say they are better without any games between them.

 

I'll say this also. In the four game series Manual had with Trinity from 2003 to 2006, they gave Trinity competition far better than anything Lexington has come up with. Also Manual beat Male last season and with the exception of 2006 was within a TD in all games with Male in that same time period.

Still when it matters most all of the teams in Louisville are chasing the big 3. Manual also has had a plethora of talent the last few years (they should be competitive) and all public schools have talent that runs in waves strong periods then lulls. When I was in High School and played for Tates Creek we hammered Trinity only to turn around and get crushed by Male in the state championship game and Trinity twice in the next 3 years. The last few years Tates Creek has ranged from terrible to good. Public Schools are like that, I expect TC's fortunes to change in the next few years with Mike Harmon as the new head coach.

 

The Big 3 are head and shoulders above reveryone else. Fern Creek, Southern and Eastern would be mediocre in Lexington just like they are in Louisville, Ballard is a crap shoot who knows with them, they look like world beaters one game and terrible the next.

 

For those who have never met Jason Howell you will be surprised. His offensive play calling talents were stymied by an outdated offensive mindset, he will be good coach if PLD gives him a chance and doesn't panic.

If that is the case, then you agree that Lexington is on par with Louville with the exception of the best teams in the state. It isn't apples to oranges; it is the point I am making if I understand you correctly.

Henry Clay has been loaded with talent the last couple of years and could beat any team in the state, except Trinity. That includes Manual.

 

Henry Clay has been thrashed by Trinity the last three years because of the way they attempt to defend Trinity's intricate passing attack. It is a lousy scheme and it has not been changed or mixed up.

 

Other teams in Kentucky, including duPont Manual, do not have a Trinity type attack. I think Henry Clay would have defeated Manual in a head to head match up the last three years.

The thing that makes Trinity's passing game so effective is their ability to run the football out of their spread formations. They are well schooled in getting checked into the right play and where to go with the football. Chalk all of this up to great coaching and players being prepared. The defense that slows down Trinity is one that either has better players or the ability to confuse them.

 

I'm very skeptical of Henry Clay beating Manual the past 3 years, especially last year. Manual was very good last year and while Henry Clay had a glowing record, 4 of their 10 wins came against Tates Creek and Dunbar. Plus, of those 10 wins, only 2 of them (Lafayette 8-3 and Boone 10-4) came against teams with winning records.

 

Henry Clay is by far the best of the 6A schools in Lexington, but i'm not real sure that is saying a whole lot the past couple of years.

I disagree with all statements. HC has been the class of Lexington... but it's just not up to par with Louisville. 2007 & 2008, Manual was a better team.

Henry Clay played a three quarter varsity scrimmage and beat St. X last year. St. X went on to run the table before losing the heartbreaker to Trinity in the 6A finals. Didn't they beat Manual twice?

 

High school football is a game of matchups and style of play. Trinity thrashes Henry Clay because the score everytime they get the ball against Henry Clay's outsmarted defensive style. Other teams in Kentucky (including Manual, St. X, etc) do not play that style that Henry Clay is unable to defend.
